I'm driving a jeep liberty with 255/75 r16 tires and am wondering what gearing I should regear too and what are the possibilities of adding in at least one locking differential along with the regearing. I'd like to get both differentials to be locking if possible, but I'm not sure if it is possible to get a locking front differential and the regearing.

The lowest gearset available for the front (dana 30a) is 4.10. It can be hard to find as it's unique to the jeep Liberty kj. Lockers as well as limited slips are easier to find. I'm running the Spartan helical and have been quite happy with it.

how rare is it to find and would it be worth it with he tires I am at right now? Also, are you running a front locker or only rear?

Sport models with the four cylinder engine came with 4.10 diffs. I think it’s still possible to buy a gear kit to rebuild them, but expensive. You can enter your VIN at this link to get the Build Sheet for your Jeep to see what you’re starting with:

I have the stock trak-loc in the rear, which I recently rebuilt and the Spartan helical diff up front. As klc said above it's the 4-cylinder kj's that have the 4.10. it took me a lot of digging to find mine. Here's a link to my build for your review.

Were there any models besides the sport.that got the 4.10 gear ratio? Or is it just the sport models that have a 4 cyl

Only the Sport with a 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual transmission. To help make up for the smaller engine.

Regular Dana 30 lockers for the front. It's the r&p that are unique.

I ran a powertrax no-slip for a while. Incredible traction

When I regeared, I also added front and rear ARB lockers. See my signature for the correct Part No...
Regearing for me was a must. Jeep shifts now as stock. As for the lockers, not needed a lot, but they can save you in bad situations.
Also you are able to crawl very slowly in difficult situations, which is helpful in order to avoid issues while offroading

Try searching for the 4.10 on www.car-part.com. Both as r&p, and also as a carrier assembly.

I think north america got a 2.8L CRD and 3.73. Automatic trans only, for certain - and that's probably the main reason I don't have a CRD.

I've got a 2.8 auto and a 2.5 manual, the manual is an NV3550. Unfortunately it's done a rod bearing & the duel mass flywheel is shot so it's reduced to parts car for the other one.

You can certainly start here as u2slow said. But the way that site works a part doesn't show available unless someone from the yard actually takes the time to post it. I came up empty searching for diffs, axles, carriers, ring and pinions etc it wasn't until I searched for a transmission for a 4 cylinder Liberty that I got a hit. Then I called the yard and asked if the parts I wanted were also available. I pretty much had to beg the guy to go look because they wanted me to go look for myself until I explained that I was about 4 hours away.

Not how it works. I have 4-5 years industry experience. The electronic inventory is done soon after they receive it - so they can find/sell their own parts.

Participation in the web locator (car-part) is either included in their software license, or an add-on. Then your inventory is visible to outside searching. What a yard can do is hide an item from the locator for whatever reason.

Does anyone know if any of the years past 07 would have 4.10 gears? I wouldn't think they changed the suspension that mich between the years

Not what I was told when I called a few yards. I'll take your word for it since you were/are directly involved. Anyhow, nobody had any 4.10 anything on the site...yet, they did?
