I'm doing a motor swap 2005 Jeep Liberty Shell pulled motor from an 07 dropped ****** and transfer case bolted it all together then stabbed it back in. Now I'm trying to use the intake manifold and throttle off of the original 05 since it's cable driven will that work with the 07 motor? And I'm also trying use the 05 wiring loom that's hooks up to the manifold. Is this going to work? Do I need to change the ECU for the newer motor?
Basically need to know what all electrical I need to change over. Please thank you. I have 6 days to get this done and vehicle out of my driveway or I get evicted so any help is appreciated thank you

You should be gold - 05 and up use the same lower end stuff - early issues with reluctor wheel on the crank and various sensors.

Make sure to swap your sensors from the 05 engine to the 07. Since you want to eliminate the 07 intake and drive by wire, you do not want to swap the ecu.

Think of it like this - It’ll want all the 05 goodies that are on your bad engine. Cam, Crank, Manifold, Map sensor, Wiring, injectors (questionable on this) coolant sensors. Make sure to change your thermostat (with a genuine mopar, oriented correctly).

Nice project!

You stated you want to use the 05 harness. I have no idea if there are differences in the sensors between those 2 years. I suggested swapping them - for me, i would - as I ‘knew’ my sensors were good. The donor engine, you have no idea unless you heard the engine run before buying it.

Try it and see!

Oh well I know it's good both were mine and both drive fine. So I don't want to change ECU for new motor

Sounds like a good plan.
- i dont know if the manifold is the same 05 and 07. With the ‘drive by wire’ 07 throttle body, you may need additional work inside the jeep to swap out the accelerator pedal. Wiring most likely not present in the 05. I like your idea to keep the cable setup for the 05. Maybe just the throttle body swap will work. I’ve never seen a drive by wire.

The 07 and 08 had the same setup under the hood, even though the body style changed between years (mine’s and 08). If you keep the old 05 cable-driven throttle body, you will need to keep the 05 computer as well, and may need to make an adapter on the 07 engine’s intake manifold to hold the cables where they need to be, or swap back on your 05 intake manifold. I’m thinking you’re correct to use as much of the 05’s electrical bits as you can. If you switch to the 07 computer when the rest of your Jeep is an 05 I am not sure what other issues that could introduce. Keeping it simple is the way to go.

So everybody in agreeance that I should be able too stay with all 05 and basically just change out entire motor and plug everything back in too it's designated places? Is there any differences in radiators as far as transmission radiators or anything etc that anyone knows for sure won't work ? Thanks guys your being awesome I truly appreciate your time!

I do want to say I have never attempted what you’re hoping to do. When my engine went, I had a shop put in a Jasper from the same model year. Please take any of my advice about swapping engines with a grain of salt.

Clarify please : In your original post, you talk about the 07 engine, transmission and transfer case. And bolting it together and stabbing it back in. Don;t take this badly, but with no punctuation, I can read that 2 ways. I am *hoping* you mean that you dropped it all from the 07, but used the 07 engine, and original transmission (05) and TC (05). If so - then, yes, you should be good to go with 05 harness, 05 manifold, 07 engine block, 05 transmission and 05 TC. Please take care with your sensor connections and for your own peace of mind, put every dang ground back where it came from!

My 06, I stole for 500 bucks because the owner was tired of ‘jeep’ing it. Just empty every pocket. The 06 had cost her a small fortune because soon after buying it, she ‘needed’ a new engine accourding to her mechanic. Said mechanic swapped the engine, took 2 months to get it on the road, and it ran awful. Said mechanic also clipped every ground point out including the head straps that go to the firewall. O - Did I mention that he spliced the crank sensor leads (because the connector and sensor did not match)? And he did so with blue painters tape.

One of her complaints was - jeep does not run when it is raining!
2nd complaint - needs a transmission! Bc it slips! Could it be due to the pinhole in the coolant lines that rubbed together under the engine? Yes - and a compression union fixed it up.

The 4wd did not work - wanna guess if the cable bushing was intact?

Enjoy !!

Hopefully, it is plug and play at this point after swapping the 07 intake off for the 05.
1 - grounds
2 - harness connections - big plug, route the harness over the engine correctly. There will be connectors for crank position that runs over top and down the right side of the engine and back to the crank sensor. There are 3 connectors each side for the injectors.

3 - oil sensor wire lower left engine to the front.
4 - top of the engine (front behind water pump ). Coolant temp sensor, MAP sensor and while we are there, compressor power.

Atop the engine, in addition to the injector wires, and teh TPS and MAF sensors near the throttle body.

Hop this gets you a bit closer!
