Hi Guys, it's been a while since I've been here. Still have my KJ 4 years later. So I am back with a question though. There is a road in my town that is the longest 10 minute drive you'll take. It's a true test for your transmission and brakes. Usuallly when I hit the bottom and I'm almost out, the KJ lurches for a second, like a bucking bronco, then it's fine again. I replaced the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor and it cleared every single code and there was like 5. Then yesterday, I came down that road and it bucked like normal, but the RPMs shot up, the longer I held in the gas, the higher they climbed. So I just coasted until they were around 2. Then it threw a new cel. P0765 Shift Solenoid "B". I've been watching videos and researching but I'm still clueless. Do I need to replace the whole valve body, or just the shift solenoid block? A garage said I need a new valve body, and most of the research points to the solenoid block. I can't find an individual solenoid B, though I know A and B exist. I would extremely appreciate a straight answer. Thank you guys.

What YEAR is your KJ?
It's an 03 automatic. I was going to get this kit from Amazon, but I'm totally flying blind into this. I have no clue if this is the part to fix what's going on or not. I asked the mechanic that's going to install it if it was right and he seemed not really interested in what I was showing him and he just said, yeah.

Has the transmission ever been serviced before with new fluid & filter?
Is the ATF +4 fluid clean, smell burnt at all on dipstick ?
The 42RLE may need a bit more fluid added especially on steep hills.
I installed a deeper PML aluminum transmission pan which helps to keep things much cooler as well.
I turn the overdrive off on steep hills its easier on the transmission.

When I bought it 4 years ago, the ****** pan had a leak, and I had to keep pouring in fluid until I got the money to get it fixed. So the fluid has been drained, clean filter, clean pan and magnet and clean fluid. I'm at 175k miles right now and was told to not change out the fluid. But I had a guy check the dipstick while it was hot and he said it looked a little over, but it looked fine. It pretty much always did that lurch on the road I mentioned, but it never threw a CEL until I cleared all the codes out.

I have only used the OD a few times, just to see if it made a difference. I never actually used it for driving though. I appreciate the conversation, no one else on the forum knows the answer, but would you mind reading the OP and possibly give a little feedback on what my issue is? Thank you.

If you have a 42RLE that is the correct solenoid pack. Just double check you dont have a 45RFE as I believe some early 03s came with that transmission as well.

I know you arent doing the work but be prepared as 2 accumulator pistons fall out when you remove the valve body. Not the most fun to get them back in. Also once you change the solenoid pack a re-learn will need to be done on the transmission or it may not shift correctly.

I ran the VIN and it has 3.7L ENG (EKG)/4SPD A/T 42RLE (DG6). I have faith in the guy installing it, I've been going to him on and off for years. I have to do some research and find out what the relearn is, thank you for mentioning it. And thanks for the help.
Edit: I found the instructions pretty easily, right here on this forum. ReLearn Instructions

The relearn should be done by the shop doing the work (with a scanner). I mentioned it just for your awareness. The procedure you referenced will probably work but to say that is the hard way to do it is an understatement.

Although Im not a transmission expert, my understanding is the switch valve in the valve body can become sticky or worn, so you may want to have your guy check that as well. Determining if its worn out is difficult and parts are hard to find. I found one that was gently oversized and so far it has worked well (6 months). There are kits with reamers to resize, but they are expensive (Transgo).

And in answer to your original question, as far as I know the solenoid pack is sold as an assembly (what you are buying). There are not individual solenoids.

P0765 UD solenoid circuit
Possible causes:
Transmission control relay output circuit open
Ud solenoid control circuit open, short to ground, short to voltage
Transmission solenoid/Trs assembly
Transmission control module
Intermittent wiring and connectors (check this first)

Btw, if you have the diagram, you can check if UD solenoid is in good condition with a multimeter in ohm. It must be between 1.6 to 2.3 ohms (engine cold)
