Securing cargo to roof rack (locking)?

Hi guys -- I am planning a drive with my Liberty to California from Illinois in the next few weeks. I have a Rola roof carrier basket along with their expandable hitch tray cargo bag and a bungee cargo net. While this has served me well for camping, I've always been near the car overnight...

    New owner and problems already?!?!?

You sure it is coolant and not PS fluid? It is common for the high pressure line to leak a bit (mine does although the fluid never seems to decrease much). Take a close look at the PS hoses to see if they are clean and dry.

How to change the boot drive shaft ?

From the factory service manual: It looks like the outer boot (nearest the hub) from your picture so below are instructions from the FSM. REMOVAL (1) Clamp shaft in a vise (with soft jaws) and support C/V joint. (2) Remove clamps with a cut-off wheel or grinder (Fig. 4). CAUTION: Do not...

How to change the boot drive shaft ?

Please refer to my post earlier in the thread. I probably does not make sense to replace just the boot -- if you can install a remanufactured half-shaft (with inner and outer CV boots already in place) that would be ideal. If you want to try and seal up your existing boot I have had good luck...

How to change the boot drive shaft ?

Have you looked at these 2 threads? :) http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-change-front-cv-axle-44548/ http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/couple-quick-questions-replacing-drivers-front-cv-axle-54794/

Couple quick questions -- replacing driver's front CV axle

You are right -- I read the 175 ft-lbs on a different jeep site (not KJ-specific) but assumed it was the same across the family. The warnings I saw (if you don't torque to 175 ft-lbs expect failure soon...) made me ask.

Couple quick questions -- replacing driver's front CV axle

Do you guys recommend replacement of any of the bolts while in there? Also, I've read online that people torque the hub nut to 175 lb-ft of torque but I looked in the FSM and it recommended 100 lb-ft. You guys follow the FSM on this, right?

Couple quick questions -- replacing driver's front CV axle

Thanks for the tips / feedback. Just out of curiosity, when you say "be careful", is there something specifically I need to watch out for? :) Also, anything special needed to pop the ball joint out of the hub?

Couple quick questions -- replacing driver's front CV axle

Hi guys -- a couple years ago I noticed a small tear on the innner CV joint boot on my driver's front axle. I patched it up with black RTV and it has been leak free through 2 winters (not bad). In any case, it has reopened and although not much grease has splatted out, I realize it is time to...

Frozen parking brake actuator -- removal?

Okay, got them out today after some torching, a BFH, and a screwdriver. Was able to remove them without removing the axle and basically had to separate the 2 pieces in order to get them out. Man they were rusted solid. Cleaned them up with a metal wire cup on my drill and then put on a decent...

Frozen parking brake actuator -- removal?

I've already swapped the rear parking brake shoes and hardware without removing the axle (followed a DIY here) so it certainly can be done. I know the FSM recommends differently. But removing the actuator is pretty challenging with the hub in the way...

Frozen parking brake actuator -- removal?

Hi guys -- I posted previously about having some difficulty with my parking brake. While I think I have the shoes and hardware sorted, I researched some more and saw that a frozen parking brake actuator is relatively common. Well, it certainly is the case on my car. Upon reinspection both...

Replaced rear brakes, now a slight drag

Yeah, I pulled things yesterday afternoon and it looks like the shoes weren't seated properly on the backing plate on one side. Got everything working except my parking brake, which just doesn't want to do anything. Oh well. Another issue - flushed brake fluid and during the bleed realized my...

Replaced rear brakes, now a slight drag

Parking brake wasn't working before the pad/shoe replacement. I can try adjusting the screw mechanism back towards the middle but that will actually make the shoes "push out" farther and therefore contact more with the rotors, right? I think that will make the drag worse.... Will try to...

Replaced rear brakes, now a slight drag

Hi guys, earlier today I replaced pads, rotors, and parking brake shoes/hardware on my '03 Liberty (136,000 miles). Parking brake hasn't worked in some time, so I figured the shoes were toast. And confirmed - they were basically nonexistent. In any case, after replacing the shoes and hardware...

    replacement radiator

Just bought a MOPAR (OEM) one for $175 from rtpartsco.com. I also bought embittered coolant from that site plus new hoses. For whatever reason, prices come up a little cheaper when you go through Factory Mopar Parts - OEM Auto Parts rather than rtpartsco.com even thought it is the same...

Swapped radiator and probably discharged a/c

I was loosening things trying to get the radiator out. After removing the bolts for the a/c radiator and trans cooler, the radiator was still tough to get out because I didn't realize you had to remove or at least loosen/maneuver the air dams. I didn't look hard enough and thought I was...

Swapped radiator and probably discharged a/c

Oh, and do you guys recommend a professional recharge or should I use a DIY kit? My a/c compressor, drier, and other parts are only 1.5 years old.

Swapped radiator and probably discharged a/c

Hi guys, just swapped in a new Mopar radiator in my 03 KJ. It was a pain wrangling the original radiator out and dumb me loosened on of the a/c system bolts for like 2 seconds. Of course, it continued to hiss for several minutes or anytime I jiggled the a/c radiator. Do I need to do anything...

    PO442 - Evap Emission Control

My MIL was on for 6+ months with this exact problem. I replaced the gas cap and that didn't fix it and the related hoses under the hood appeared fine. So, I was pretty sure it was a leak near the charcoal canister (right by the driver's rear suspension). My emissions deadline was coming up...
