Not paying $250+ for a battery. The Excide FP-AGM24F looked like it would work but terminals are opposite what the liberty needs (need neg on inside/positive closest to fender.
Have yet to hear anyone have a battery to fit Liberty except for your 1500DT
I have been looking for an AGM for my '02. Issue is I haven't seen any local that carry a type 86 battery which mine calls for. Napa, Autozone, et all don't even carry AGM in stock. Lots of discontinued models too. I wonder if something happened to a plant? Sure I can find an Odessey on Amazon...
Yep! Seen that elsewhere and I forgot to including the checking of grounding on the original post. Thanks! Will add that to the original post and check that on my own JK.
Ok, so having posted this I am still narrowing down my issue. My '02 KJ periodically doesn't start with clicking issue. I cleaned terminals and replaced my negative side (been bad for a long time) with a new terminal and wing nut terminal and cut and drilled the flat metal portion of OEM cable...
My '02 Liberty has a periodic starting issue and in searching the forums I noticed it is pretty common. I wanted to put all options to consider here for discussion since I saw many only touched on specific ideas.
First I want to say that the KJ electric system focusing on the charging system...
285K+. Had it since 75K. Purchased a rebuilt engine a few yrs back due to the notorious valve seat issue that permitted a valve to drop on the cylinder. It was cheaper htan having it rebuilt locally and came with a 3 yr warranty.
wanted to add an update. I added a terminal with a wing nut post and cut the copper flat section of the OEM cable and drilled a hole through it. Working so far as a reasonable short term fix.
I was searching Napa today for a battery and noted that they now sell a 2-part cable for the negative...
2002 liberty negative side. The copper flat terminal goes out and down the side a few inches where the two ground cables connects.
The harness seems too tight to cut the cables and bring up the side a few inches and then across the top to the negative post . the one cable goes to the driver...
The best and worst batteries can be in the same brand. What was once a good battery may be junk when you replace it with same.
After research for my truck, I went with a Diehard AGM battery in my truck this fall $185 online price honored in store.
My KJ still has 3 yrs on its Napa...
Funny my search didn't come up with a fix but I know this is a common problem-Battery terminals that go bad.
The new harness is reportedly $110 and has so many connections that it isn't fondly embraced.
My negative terminal is the issue so I could follow some who bypassed the harness and ran...
Tom,
My 2002 Jeep is in the shop with the seat tor apart (Divers side rail frame busted). Do you know what years match from 2002 on?
Jay,
How did you come out on your seat issue?
My research was that the plug behind the right rear panel was part of the factory wiring harness that included the overhead mileage info panel. If the mileage info panel was absent (sport?) then the plug and play plug in the back would not be there and you had to use the trailer hitch wiring kit...
What fan are you guys using? I have a 2002 (comes with the separate p/s cooler). Since it has the mileage computer it should also have the wiring in the back for the hitch. I am getting ready to order a hitch to pull a popup but understand the liberty will handle 5,000 if I plan to prepare it to...
