Added 3 quarts of oil to the 3.7 gas engine.
Sure hoping it's the valve stem seals leaking and not the piston rings that are worn out.
Small puff of blue smoke when I start it up after it has been sitting for a while.
Owned it for 8 months and never did an oil change as it uses so much oil...
I learned the hard way that going is easier than stopping with a 4X4.
Went a bit crazy when I hit 6" of snow last week crawling up some 6 to 8% roads. First time ever doing this in a 4X4.
Now coming down them roads, I thought I'd have the same traction when I hit the brakes. Nope, acts the...
I've never tried it, but I'm sure you could pressurize each cylinder say up to the recommended compression of the engine specs with compressed air and see if bubbles form in the coolent. That would confirm that you have a head gasket problem.
i do it when I'm crawling in rush hour traffic.
Cycle it in between FT PT and Low
I put it in neutral crawling at 2mph when cycling it.
Smooth as butter and no clunking into Low as I experienced before
I'm praying for snow this year and haven't see any.
Never owned a 4X4 and was really looking forward for a big dump of snow to try out the select trac transfer case.
Only time I've tried it when it was raining to try to feel the difference from full time to part time. I had the front diff wind...
Also, need to find which one of my friends owns a compression tester.
I actually made an adapter for my Honda motorcycle years ago, as the compression tester I borrowed from my friend years ago didn't have that metric thread pitch. I drilled out a used spark plug and brazed welded a pipe nipple...
Great ideas,
PVC was checked and it still rattles, also great to hear that some of you have done the seals while in situ.
Options options, I like options.
Was thinking of removing the PVC and plugging the hose off to see if it would make a difference for say a month. Just let the crankcase...
My KJ is new to me, had it about 6 months and I bet I've added about 10 quarts to it. No need for an oil change in my eyes.
It's a 3.7 L and is either burning oil or leaking while driving, not much oil on the ground when it's parked and no blue smoke. A puff of blue when I start it while it...
Just by what you said and your getting fuel in your oil, you may have a ring job in the near future.
Compression test and a leak down test will confirm this.
Good news, mine is still lukewarm at the best of times.
Going to do another back flush, just need to find some type of chemicals to help me along the way and not damage the heater core internals.
Welcome to the board
Document the rebuild process as some of us might want to do it in the near future.
My 3.7 L is either burning oil or leaking while driving, not much oil on the ground when it's parked and no blue smoke.
It's almost to the point of check the gas and fill the oil every few...
Very clean, how does the underside look.
Get out the paint brush and head under to stop the corrosion process.
I put a damper on the rust that was just starting around the spot welds on the undercarriage along with paining up some of the suspension parts.
