    Mystery P0300 root cause?

Maybe an Intake Air Temp sensor and/or IAT connector problem. This may seem "left field"... however, I have been chasing a P03xx ghost-in-the-machine problem for over a year now and I stumbled into a piece of trivia that may be the ultimate root cause. Hear me out. If you search for stuff...

    O2 Fault Codes

The upstream and downstream sensors should all constantly bounce between a reading of around 0.1 and 0.85. If one of those sensors is stuck/not-bouncing that is the likely culprit.... but it also may be a bad cat on that side. If all sensors are bouncning between 0.1 and 0.85, then it is...

    A time to die.

So... 1. What is the total $$$ outlay for everything you have done? 2. Have you actually installed a reman engine or have you been tinkering with the original all along? If the answer to #1 is < $5000, good luck finding a (hopefully reliable) used car fo less than $10K, so another $5000 for a...

    O2 Fault Codes

Agree w lfhoward. 4 o2 sensors on a 2002, correct? (I have a 2003 and I know I have 4, never hurts to confirm) Upstream/downstream, driver side passenger. Cyl #2 and #6 are misfiring so the whole passenger side exhaust is getting gunked up. Before you replace the sensor, 2 questions: 1. Are...

Do transmission codes trigger the check engine light?

I just went through some very weird troubleshooting exercises that were focused on the PCM. Some artifacts included transmission faltering and the AT "slamming" into 2nd. I thought it might be a faulty TCM, so I found an exact part number match on a salvage that was is garage-kept condition...

Do transmission codes trigger the check engine light?

This is a very, very useful bit of esoterica. Thank you for sharing, and if you have any other tricks please enumerate and share!

Custom sheet metal fabrication: brackets, flanges, odds and ends

I have been experiencing excellent DIY results with the help of an online metal fabrication service called "Send Cut Send". https://sendcutsend.com/ If you have access to, or are able to generate, a DXF (or .step or .eps) file, and have the ability to define precise dimensional info for...

2002-2004 KJ: Recommendation for Flagship 1 PCMs

I highly recommend the Flagship 1 PCM for 2002-2004 3.7L Liberty KJs. I have a 2003 3.7L Liberty Sport. The engine is a Chrysler workhorse found in several different Jeep and Chrysler vehicles (look it up on Wikipedia) over many years, IOW millions of vehicles, so it is mechanically reliable...

Rear Glass latch won't open via handle

I was going to offer some suggestions, but when I clicked on "Reply" I got an old sub-thread (see immediately above) that seems to break continuity, so I hesitate to respond. Is anyone else getting that behavior from the Forum chat? If "no" then I probably have some sort of local internet issue.

Cleaning the Throttle Body: 2002-2004 KJ 3.7L, symptoms initial stall, weird shifting, harsh WOT

Keep road salt off of the underbody, don't tow anything heavy, change the oil every 3000 miles and change the plugs with NGK V-power copper every 30K miles... and that Liberty will last a loooong time. The motors on 2002-2004 power windows have been a problem (your model may be immune to that)...

Cleaning the Throttle Body: 2002-2004 KJ 3.7L, symptoms initial stall, weird shifting, harsh WOT

As you say, if it ain't broke don't fix it ! You should be bulletproof up to at least 150K miles, especially if it is garage kept. My 1st major mechanical was a blown transmission at 205K... I would assume that any issues with 2003 KJs got handled by the 2007 KKs.

    Rich air fuel mix problem

After everything was said and done, I replaced the upstream cat on the side with the trim problem and that further improved the trim problem.

    Rich air fuel mix problem

That rogue vacuum hose was in fact a transmission beather hose. It runs up from the auto trans, through the back of the engine compartment and ties off on the dipstick tube with a cable tie. There used to be a hose clip somewhere on the firewall but its long gone.

0.040 is the correct gap !!! My reference to 0.044 is *not* correct and I edited my earlier reply to 0.040

Cleaning the Throttle Body: 2002-2004 KJ 3.7L, symptoms initial stall, weird shifting, harsh WOT

A dirty throttle body (henceforth "TB") can cause a variety of symptoms including: 1. Tendency to stall when stepping on the gas (especially from a cold start), while the car is in gear and idling 2. Gagging acceleration (until engine gets to running temp) 3. Fluttering gear changes 4...

Engine replacement checklist KJ 2002 2003 and maybe 2004

If you happen to be marching through this checklist, I also recommend that you clean your throttle body (henceforth "TB") as long as you are doing any/all of this other stuff... A dirty throttle body (henceforth "TB") can cause a variety of symptoms including: 1. Tendency to stall when...

Engine replacement checklist KJ 2002 2003 and maybe 2004

***UPDATE*** Do not trust Autozone gapping recommendations (or any other online retailer spec for that matter). Use NGK V-Power COPPER plugs gapped to .040. From experience, using .044 gap is wrong and will produce choppy cylinder detonation, tendency to stall, jerky gear shifts... and the gap...
