What did you do to your jeep today?

So, made a start on replacing the passenger window & regulator over the weekend. Got the door card off with no issues, despite not being able to find the right tools, didn't break any clips although, oddly, one of the sockets ought to be replaced (don't suppose they're as readily available but...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Yup, our colonial cousins have a different name for many car parts (not to mention a few tools) & this is one o' they. Loads of U-bend vids on 242 rebuilds in particular 'cos they were used in XJ Cherokees (& a few others) so have been around for a long time.

    2002 liberty key fob programming

I've heard £400 mentioned for other, newer makes. However, dear, old fashioned thing that I am, I can live without gimmicks like keyless entry (& most things cars didn't have, or need, for the 1st 100 years) - if the alarm's the problem, disconnect it.

    Catalytic Converter Questions

Mine came with 2 universal cats, indifferently welded in place, because, it seems that's all we can get, so there were lots of little leaks, how PO got it through inspection I'll never know. I had to remove both downpipes & have the welding done properly - & leak tested for good measure. Even at...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Well my luck ran out Friday night when Torbay had more rain than for the whole f the Summer 'til then. Fortunately, its parking place is fairly sheltered so I only had to wipe down the inside of the door (there was a bout 2" of water in the door pull) and the passenger seat. What I'd forgotten...

    Fuse for rear passenger windows?

According to the Driver's Manual, the rears aren't separately fused - so if the fronts work it's not the fuse (or relay) fwiw, the relay fuse is the 20a one in cavity 1 at the end of the dash & the windows one is the 40a @ F13 under the hood.

    A time to die.

A parts car or a cache of parts can make all the difference but with KJ's it's not the price/availability of parts that's the issue - it's that, with very few exceptions, they are just the world's worst (well after the original Mini - the only car I eventually refused to work on) to anything...

What did you do to your jeep today?

KJ's seem to have a unique relationship with their batteries. Mine wouldn't start after I'd been away for 3 or 4 weeks, wouldn't jump start, battery didn't respond to charging, despite showing a similar voltage, in terms of turning the engine over. It had shown similar symptoms a couple of years...

    O2 Fault Codes

O2 sensors are generic; Mopar, like everyone else, buys them by weight from whoever offers them cheapest. The only difference between the 4 is the length of the wires. As I've said before my KJ is perfectly happy (i.e it keeps the CEL out) with 2 el cheapo universal ones & the 2 salvaged from my...

    A time to die.

I've never spent 10,000 on a vehicle & doubt I ever shall as, even now, I consider that to be "Bentley money" My KJ was, I thought, expensive (a couple of years ago) at £1600 but a better than average specimen, has actually cost me very little, but (for the most part) it has been nothing but...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Not a problem in Canada (or the UK for that matter) - but in some parts of the world . . .

    Rear upper control arm.

I suspect we exchanged views/experiences over the month (i.e.4 or 5 consecutive weekends) it took me. I was thwarted by no line of sight on the clamp, no possible way of inserting anything into it - or applying enough effort to the stud to push it out. Reassembly was almost as bad, I think that...

What did you do to your jeep today?

I fear you may be right but, as far as I know, my luck's held. Actually, that reminds me I meant to find a bit of suitably heavy duty plastic sheeting but, of course, it's too late now.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Ordered a used window regulator - £20 including shipping, so wasn't going to miss the chance. (although I'd take that for a complete door off my parts XJ). When I can get it fitted is another matter, probably Bank Holiday weekend (the last in the month) now, as that gives me a bit more flexibility.

    A time to die.

Thing about KJ's is they're disposable, worth nothing & depreciating, so always one, not so major, repair short of scrap.

    Rear upper control arm.

Mine failed inspection, which came as a total surprise as even when removed I couldn't find anything really wrong, although the bushings were showing their age. An interesting job, I consider it an achievement but it's not one I'm anxious to repeat. Would I have started, knowing what I learned...

What did you do to your jeep today?

So, it started after standing for a week, no hesitation, nothing to suggest there'd ever been a problem - yet it's taken 2 months to get back to this stage. No loose bolts on right front brake assembly - but glad I checked. While parked up for the last week the left front window slid down into...

    O2 Fault Codes

I'm reliably informed they're all the same, except the plugs & the length of the wires. Certainly mine seems quite happy with 2 el cheapo universal ones &, I think, now both of those off my '96 XJ.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Not sure it's branded at all, it was pretty much the cheapest one I could find on Evilbay. So far it's exceeded expectations, convinced me they really are a useful bit of kit &, depending on how long it lasts, might be persuaded to buy a reputable make as a replacement, in due course. fwiw -...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Ah, but I've got a cordless ratchet, to supplement my drill/1/4" drive wrench, which are ideal for assembly, especially where access is an issue, & they invariably stop about a turn short of tight.
