My jack stands and 3 ton floor jack have proved invaluable. I bought both when I owned a Ford Explorer and had to drop the fuel tank to replace the pump, and I’m gonna pick up a second set of jack stands to help make it easier and safer to work on my wife’s Honda.
Yeah, I’m slowly learning to do all my own work on it. With the exception of my normal mechanic, every time I bring a vehicle anywhere else in town they screw it up. On Friday I get to fix my transmission lines, and I’ll give it another go at the transfer case. Hopefully I can get it to budge...
Not to revive a clearly dead thread here, but I seem to have the issue of the cooler lines leaking at the crimped connections from metal to rubber lines up front. Since I definitely can not afford to pay someone to do it (my mechanic quoted $450 for new lines the whole way back, parts and...
I’m trying to open my transfer case fill plug before opening the drain plug, but I can’t get the screw out. I’m using a 10mm allen and it’s just stripping the screw, but not budging at all. I’ve sprayed some pb blaster on it to see if I can get it to break free, and I’m letting it sit for a...
But lots of people who hate hearing what Tom has to say, sadly. I’d rather listen to Tom and have my Jeep riding properly than throw money at a problem with no clear direction.
That makes sense. I will be sure to use anti seize on the bolts.
Perfect. And this is why I ask questions before doing anything an auto parts store employee tells me.
Cleaning off the old gasket from the diff took a bit of time. But now to clean off the gasket shavings and reattach the diff cover. In the how to on here, it said to use anti seize on the bolts. The auto parts guy told me not to use anti seize and instead use locktite. I’m not sure which is...
Having never done this before, I just went with what I saw recommended in a big enough can that I know I won't run out for this job. My hope is that this stuff works out well, and is relatively inexpensive, so hopefully a win-win.
No trac-lok for me. Just got my build sheet downloaded on my phone a couple days ago to confirm. Is there any benefit using a felpro gasket over permatex for the rear diff? Or is it just personal preference?
I’m waiting for my packages to arrive with my 85w140 gear oil for front and rear diffs, gasket maker (permatex ultra grey that I saw recommended on here), and an oil filter. My truck will also be getting the transfer case fluid changed, as I already have the atf+4 here. Having never done the...
Are there particular parts you use for the new tri-link? My rear UCA needs changing, and I was gonna work toward building one. It seems pretty straight forward.
I have never heard of a battery here in Arizona lasting that long. Do those batteries hold up to the heat we see here in the southwest? If they do, when my current battery dies I may just look in this direction. Do the stock alternators charge these ok? Some of the stuff I was just reading...
After overheating on the drive home, I had to replace my radiator fan finally, and I didn’t check the fuse beforehand, so I stole one of the other 40a fuses to replace it. Now to get a fuse for my windows and replace my radio that died about 12 hours before the fan.
There’s definitely a reason I have actively tried participating here and not so much there. You’ve always shown yourself to be more knowledgeable than the vast majority of that group, like the guys in the group still telling people the rough country spacer lift is great, and definitely doesn’t...
Being in a KJ group on Facebook, I am not surprised unfortunately. I joined that group right around when I joined this forum, and the disparity of information between the two is staggering.
I know I’ve asked a fair amount of questions about gearing, I may have some answers based on what I’ve learned on this forum. But it’s not something I’ve personally done, Tom has just answered all my questions.
