I also found there is no fuel filter on my 04 as stated in the manual , I had purchased a filter per rockauto or some other site but returned it since it did not exist, no problems without one so I just let it be. Tank was very clean inside even after 200k miles.
If there enough play in the shaft ( worn bushing)it will leak even with a new seal, not sure about it with the jeep but my son's Honda civic leaked after replacing the cv half shaft even after multiple seal changes due to a worn bushing..
You could do a visual of the evap system hoses both underneath and the engine bay, I chased that code for a year - finally dropped the tank and it was the plastic ring on top of the tank - part was no longer available so had to source one from the junkyard, smoke test did not find my leak.
I trust my 2004 Jeep w/ +200k more then my 2010 Toyota with less then 100k - that damn scion is nothing but problems for me and both maintained very well.
From what I have read - replacement cats will work fine but will not last as long as OEM , They have less precious metals then the OEM's and why thieves steal originals .
Like Tom said -( broken wire ) was a real bear to find -ended up a very corroded wire under the drivers carpet in the wiring tray, lucky that mopar twisted the two wires together coming from the speed sensor making it somewhat easier to trace. Also seems I have water intrusion being the...
Nevermind -The search feature actually works well here -found what I needed from a few older posts and yes the speed sensor is located on the rear diff. for The older KJ'S .
Anybody know what sensor to replace to get my speedometer to function on a manual trans. I see a sensor on the rear diff.and assume that is what I need since my jeep does not have ABS. - rockauto shows all auto trans sensors. I found part# 56041393aa but not sure . Thanks..
Great write up and photos, Plastic solder and epoxy both a option -I was lucky to find 2 entire fuel pump assembly's in great shape -my next option was to maybe retrofit a newer kj fuel tank w/ the standard one piece fuel pump.
