    2011 jeep, wrong coolant ??

an old motorcycle riding buddy stopped by yesterday with a problem with his '11 Cherokee (please don't kill this just because it's a Cherokee). anyway, he stopped to ask if i had ever seen coolant that looked line brown jello (once someone knows that you are / were a mechanic, your automatically...

Rebuild Options For 50-75 More Horsepower?

yes, i know. i think turbo would be the most economical. but the ecm would still need to be done. and i have no clue what or where to have that done. anything can be done with enough $$$$. but i think in this case, he would be way better off with a vehicle with a good 300ish hp v-8.

Rebuild Options For 50-75 More Horsepower?

As I see it. there are 2 main problems. 1) is remapping the engine control module to accommodate whatever mods you could make (turbo, cams, headers, etc.. and 2) making more heat in the cylinder head/valve area, could be enough to loosen the valve seats. if it drops a seat, say goodbye to the...

    Heavy Duty Cooling (Trailer Tow)

is the stock trans cooler big enough for the extra heat of towing a trailer? the big problem i see is all the cooling goes thru the same stream of air. a/c condenser, trans cooler, (maybe engine oil cooler) and finally radiator. each adding heat and transferring it to the following cooler. if...

    Heavy Duty Cooling (Trailer Tow)

Before I do much trailering, I'm going to upgrade the cooling system to the Trailer Tow Package. I will likely end up at salvage yards, as buying new O.E.M. parts are way to pricy for me. Is there differences between years (mine is a 2005 3.7L) of KJ's? and just so I don't miss something, I...

    random questions

so i have a few random questions, 1) on the 3.7l dropping valve seat thing, is there any rhyme or reason behind it, or is it just bad luck? i think from what i have read, that overheating can be a contributing factor. what about mileage? is a high mileage engine more or less likely to drop a...

first road construction / over heat of the year

for now at least, i have disconnected the fan at the fan. leaving the connector open. i soldered in a switch i control from the drivers seat. i am pretty good at watching the gauges. i have to find a good auto salvage yard close by. the 2 i used to go to several years ago have closed up.

first road construction / over heat of the year

that would have been a good thing to know 7 or 8 months ago when i bought the car! so by "damaged", do you mean plugged? and if that is the case, is there any hope the will burn itself clean?

first road construction / over heat of the year

i was just thinking, that the temp gauge in the dash NEVER goes higher than 1/2 way up.

first road construction / over heat of the year

yes, i have a scan tool. it shows a bad o2 sensor. but nothing about the cooling system, even after the overheat issue.

first road construction / over heat of the year

well, i have a set of "J"hooks (electrical tool that pierces the wire without slicing thru the insulation). i pierced the center wire of the fan side of the harness (black) with the negative side of my multi meter, then pierced the high speed side, and it is always hot (with the engine running)...

first road construction / over heat of the year

well, i'm finally over Covid 19, and got a chance to look at the jeep today. i did the first suggested check, which was to see if the cooling fan works when the a/c is turned on. and it does, but kind of funny. when i turn the a/c on, at normal operating temp (200-205 ish by a Sun mechanical...

first road construction / over heat of the year

well, we found the first of MANY road construction /repair projects of the year (just the first one WE hit, the state starts them much earlier). and we were stuck there long enough that the coolant began to boil, and that is NEVER good, but twice as bad on this engine type (3.7l). so what i want...

    All Aluminum Radiators

ok, i need a little help. i posted about repairing the stock radiator. which sounds like its not going to work. then tonight, i ran across this, which i am GLAD i did. because i was considering an ebay all aluminum radiator. which sounds like a bad idea. so all this talk about hood vents (while...

    stopping the dribble

well, if i have to replace it, i'm going tp put an aluminum 3 core one in its place. years ago, we owned a dodge neon (best car we have ever owned), and it had an aluminum core with plastic tanks. the salt (road salt) ate away at the aluminum crimp that held the plastic/aluminum seal tight, and...

    springing sprung springs

so shocks has always been something that i have just guessed at. and usually selected wrong. i have made the mistake of buying "stock dampening" shocks before. and IMO, that means they do almost nothing. and i have bought heavy duty springs that ride like a buckboard wagon until they got 20k on...

    springing sprung springs

sorry its been so long for a reply. i measured the front center of the hub, to the lower edge of the fender flare, and its at 17.5". the rear measures just short of 18". so besides sacked out, how far sacked out is the old girl? i know i can feel the rear hit the bump stop way more often than it...

    stopping the dribble

so i was installing the wiring for a new set of lights. and i noticed a spot on the driveway. i did some serious looking, and found the drivers side of the radiator is leaking. considering that its plastic, and has the worst environment for repair, both heat and pressure. i figured i should ask...

    springing sprung springs

so, i noticed a while ago, that the rear suspension has only about (calibrated eyeball measurement) 1" of movement before the bump stop starts getting a workout. and i do feel it hitting way more than i would like. i am pretty sure my kj has the original factory suspension, with 170,000 miles on...
