What did you do to your jeep today?

The third skid plate from Skid Row was installed today. Now I don't have to worry so much about breaking my front diff. It took only 5 minutes to bolt in. They didn't have an open lift rack available, so I only have this one photo taken by the mechanic so I wouldn't have to lay down in the dirt...

    Wheel spacers

I believe these have been sold twice already... so, maybe. :happy175:

What did you do to your jeep today?

No one slaps one on. It's a machine at the factory. There's not much difference between a Limited and a non-Limited anyway - 17" rims, leather seats, other cosmetics. Drivetrain is the same, suspension's the same, all the parts that matter are the same. Until you begin to do modifications, that...

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean. If you mean external, as in outside of the cargo basket, either in front, back or on the side of it, then that won't work. I don't think I'd like it, if it was possible. The basket is 40½" wide, so adding a tube for the tanks to the side would cause...

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

Those pics are too small to make out very well, but my tanks are different. The tank measures 4⅜" diameter and about 29" tall (some tanks have taller necks than others). The tanks can last me almost 3 hours at 4 lpm or 3¾ hrs at 3 lpm if I'm not very active (I need to be on 4 when I am...

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

Yes, the one I mentioned in my first post, a Rola Roof Rack - they call it a Rola Roof Mounted Cargo Basket.

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

That was already suggested, I think: And my reply: The caps I showed will be attached firmly to the basket rails and will hold the bottom of the tanks down, while the dive tank straps will hold the top portion of the tanks down, until I flip the quick-release lever and lift one out.

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

I know. That how-to I linked to had lots of people saying they didn't bend the pipes either, but some said there was vibration, sagging and more noise. That wasn't the problem for all of them, just some. But when I look at the photos of the different projects, I prefer the look of the bent ones...

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

Thanks for the clarification. Good article you posted a link to in that post. There's a powder coat shop in Reno I used to go to for my custom computers and my Segway. I had almost forgotten about them. I might just get my custom rails and hardware powder coated. It would probably be more...

What did you do to your jeep today?

What'd your mom ask you... if ever'one jumped off a cliff, would you? ;) The key is when you ask a question instead of tell us what you did to your Jeep today. That's when you know. :D Sad news. :( I'm sure you spending time with her makes you both feel better.

What do people think on Synthetic Motor Oil

This is one of those discussions where it's obvious that most are set in their ways and nothing you say will change their mind. So, I make no excuses and I don't have any meaningful/less statistics. I used regular Mobil 1 in my vehicles for work and play for more years than I can remember -...

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC) doesn't really have anything to do with whether or not you bend the modified cross rails. It's still a pipe, whether you use IMC, EMT (Electrical Metallic Conduit) or RMC (Rigid Metal Conduit). You can bend any of those, if you choose to. I chose to follow the...

What did you do to your jeep today?

I had kind of a long day driving here and there today. When I got home, I found the final skid plate from Skid Row had arrived. It goes in front of the other two already installed and this one will protect that fragile front differential. Can't wait to get it installed and break it in.

Custom Roof Crossbars for a Low Profile Rack

I want to add a Rola Roof Rack to my KJ so I can carry some of my oxygen tanks up there instead of inside the cabin (can you imagine the damage a couple of those can do flying around loose in a roll-over). So, I have ordered the materials and followed the instructions in a "How To: Roof Rack...

What did you do to your jeep today?

This is a gentle rip, not for asking the question, but for asking it in the "What did you do to your jeep today" thread. It actually applies to anyone who is about to use this thread to ask technical questions like this, instead of actually telling us what you did to your Jeep today. Here's...

I consider myself an artist. Photography is my medium and my "brushes" are a variety of tools, including lens filters (the only ones I use are a polarizer and a 6-stop neutral density, but neither all the time) and a few different software programs, including Photoshop. I am not a documentary...

Bogs Down in Reverse UP an Incline

I was in Part Time 4WD, which was suitable for the terrain. The conditions weren't completely unknown: That depicts about 2/3 of the hazard. You can easily see to the creek bed. I am standing in the first third, which seemed fairly firm and was only 6-8" deep (a few inches above my...

Bogs Down in Reverse UP an Incline

I had a chance to rehearse that backing up in 4W-Lo thing you guys told me about. Jeez, I don't know why I didn't think to try that before. It was so easy. It's a real confidence builder. I started to go across a flooded creek yesterday and found myself in some really soft, mushy mud and...
