    Power Steering Troubleshooting

I suspect that my power steering isn't working as well as it should. Does anybody have any tips of how to begin troubleshooting? Over the years I've driven many different vehicles, most with power assisted steering. While it's not as difficult as standard steering it the response of my...

How long will a typical Jeep Liberty engine last?

My 04 Liberty Sport has 151,000 kms on it (94,000 miles). I too have had a water pump replaced and the oil pan. You wouldn't think that an oil pan would rot out so quick on an 04 but the quality of the oil pan's metal is pretty crappy. Even the new one. Routine maintenance goes a long way...

    CB antenna mount

I have a K30 magnetic base antenna on the top of my Libby. It's the best position for a CB antenna and because its magnetic it will fall over should it hit an overhead branch but its yet to do so.

    11.2 mpg (us) :O

I think something is wrong with your calculations moncalain or you engine needs the injectors cleaned. Myself I'm getting about 20 MPG on my 04 Liberty Sport. Let me explain the details. I'm running ProComp LT245/75R16 AT tires and even though I have the BCM programed for the larger tires my...

    Installing trans cooler

Now please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the stock Liberty come with only an electrical rad fan? If you add a tranny cooler shouldn't you also upgrade to a mechanical clutch fan and new rad shroud too? My 04 Liberty Sport gasser has a factory trailer package which includes an external...

God another problem, fuel gauge reading wrong now

I had a similar problem with my fuel gauge for years but my problem simply disappeared on it's own. It sounds like your gas tank float may have been stuck. And oddly your CapsLOck on your keyboard is stuck too :signs8:

    Charging Question

I have an update on my battery/charging issues. Remember my problems were with the battery inexplicably dying overnight. I visited my local NAPA store and had them test my battery and they told me the battery voltage was too high which was a sign of bad cells and that it was only capable of...

    Charging Question

Good point tjkj2002. I do recall if you install an alternator larger than stock that you have to get the PCM programed to accept it.

Need fast answer-- how to leave the radio on with out draining battery

I suggest you visit your local parts store and have your battery tested. My Liberty starts just fine however if I leave my GPS plugged in overnight it will do the same thing, it will kill the battery and that's just not right. This week I'm going to have mine tested.

    Charging Question

Those voltages sound about normal except for the measurements in the 12v range. The standby voltage measurement with the engine not running is about twelve volts. Most auto parts stores will test your battery for free and if you suspect the alternator you can pull it out and have a an starter...

WEnt to a junkyard in pa and came across this!

I'm a big fan of wreckyards. It's true though, there aren't many Liberty's to be found in them. I guess it's because we're all such excellent drivers :driver: I've found a few EVIC's from my local wrecking yards. FYI: the exact model year of the Liberty can be found on the inside of the...

    Co-workers 2004 overheating

Okay I'll throw in my two cents since I've experienced overheating issues on both my 4 cyl YJ and my 6 cyl KJ. My YJ developed an overheating problem after I replaced the water pump. After trying everything but "snake oil" including replacing the water pump a second time I discovered that the...

Intermittent overheating problem - belt/tensioner/AC pulley??

You can test the operation of the electric rad fan by jumpering 12v to the connector at the fan. It should be a three pin connector, a common and Hi & Lo speed. Beware, the jumper wires will get hot, the fan draws a lot of current. If you try to spin the mechanical clutch rad fan while the...

Heavy mud and belt pulley noise

Yeah I agree that driving through mud does look cool in the pic but causes a lot of problems later, especially on manual transmissions. After this little stunt I realized my mechanical clutch rad fan was unbalanced because of all the mud on it and caused some real bad vibrations. Also the...

    Jeep to loud

I can't wait until my stock muffler falls off so I can run out and but a Cherry Bomb. Even though my Libby is an automatic I like to hear the engine revs not to call undue attention to myself as I drive down the road/trail but just to let me know how well the engine is running. If you want...

All it takes is one old man...

I've been real lucky that I haven't had a vehicular accident in many years. Now if you start counting all the trees & rocks that I've hit on the trail, that's a totally different story. Of all the accident stories that I've heard & read involving a Libby it seldom was hit by somebody else but...
