I know this has been posted and I have looked at a lot of he reviews, but need more help.

Power steering high pressure hose leaking at the hose to pump fitting.
Hose and rack were replaced about 1-1/2 years ago.

The leak is coming from between the tube and the end fitting of the hose.
And it is not just a drip, but healthy stream.

Took hose off and o-ring seemed to be broken.

Tried replacing with o-ring that I had which was a bit thicker, tried ones close to the OEM size, and then tried Mopar OEM rings as well.

And then tighten fitting until it can't anymore - same amount of leaking.

So fluid is not coming from threads on the pump side fitting and still leaks between the hose/tube and the hose fitting itself which has to be the sealing surface - ie the o-ring.

Or am I missing something? Possible the pump fitting is the cause somehow (cracked) that I can't see so the o-ring can't generate a good seal?

Seems the hose itself is fine but is there anything to look for?
Or thinking about just replacing the pump at this point with a reman one or pick-n-pull part - thoughts?

Thanks

Old o-ring or something stuck up in the fitting on the pump? Or a burr on the fitting - inside the pump that cuts the new o-ring when you tighten it up?

Ok thanks. I have tried to look with a mirror and used a pick but can't seem to see anything up in the fitting. Also, seems strange if it was a burr that it would be ok and then just start to leak as bad as it was/is.

I think I'm gonna pull the pump off the motor for a better look (fitting issue, cracked housing or other) but was hoping not to. But at this point, I've tried replacing o-ring 4-5 times and the fitting is tight so....

Can get an aftermarket new pump cheap enough as well $65-85, so may do that once its off if I see anything strange. Hose was replaced about a year ago and looks fine along side a new one.

A picture would really help.
Not sure what I'd send a picture of. Its just leaking between the hose/tube and the hose firring. Doesn't look to be leaking from the fitting threads which tells me its not sealing at the pump fitting/hose o-ring.

I think your idea of pulling out the pump is good. it's not too difficult of a job. The puller is also available with the loaner tools.
it could be a crack like you mentioned.

Did you get it figured out? I'm in the same boat. Replaced the rack, pump & lines a coupe years ago and never could get it to seal right. Currently experimenting with different O-rings. A nylon washer didn't work.

Are they tube nut fittings? If so they might need a backing ring if the inserted pipe is bottoming out before the seal or the nut is running out of thread. If you have the old bits you could measure up and see where the issue is.
I wonder if the original o rings were metric and you are trying to use imperial rings?? Most of the KJ is metric.

Yes at the tube nut fitting.
It was perfectly fine for almost a year after I replaced the rack.

So hard to understand what happened to the hose/tube. Easy to understand if it was the hose itself but it’s at the tube fitting.

I have tried OEM mopar orings, and multiple larger ones from my own stock to see if I could seal it with no luck.

If does seem like the nut fitting bottoms out, is tight but still leaks between the tube and fitting. If it didn’t have a backing ring and was fine, that would just seem strange that it would need one now.

I’ll be pulling the pump to inspect the bottom pump fitting better and may just replace it for $65 and see if maybe it’s just the fitting side on the pump.

That’s all I can think of …

Gave up and replaced the pump & high pressure hose, no more problems.

New pump came with an o-ring, and a plastic ring which didn't seem to fit anything. Didn't try the rack end of the hose, so maybe it goes there.

At any rate, glad to be putting this mess behind me.

Ok well good to know. Didn’t get that far today. Both my kids have a Liberty and today was transmission pan gasket on the other one… so… pulling power steering pump had to wait until next weekend or one night this week, but I’ll post my outcome as well.
