Hi All. I have a 07 with the manual trans. It has around 100k and I've put about 17k on it. It started making noise when it was cold and I brought it in to have the trans rebuilt and clutch replaced. I called the local 4x4 place and a transmission shop and they both referred me to a trans shop for manuals. Turns out he doesn't do any R&R and referred me to a mechanic they work with.
The trans was removed and brought to the trans shop and they rebuilt it to the tune of $2000. $1500 in parts and $500 in labor.
Now I'm working with the other mechanic and things aren't going so well. I asked them to install a LUK clutch kit which they said they would, after doubling the price of the parts. Then they called me about the flywheel, it is bad. They ordered one which I will assume is whatever they can get from O'Reilly's. Now they called about the clutch master cylinder, which I will also assume is also whatever they can get down the street.
I've been given a price of $2400 for the clutch, flywheel, master cylinder replacement. I still can't believe $4400 and counting for a manual trans and clutch. Is that normal for one of these transmissions? I wonder how much more the dealer would have been.
Along with the cheap parts, I'm concerned about if the flywheel is curved or not curved, and if they got the right one. Or does it matter if the flywheel and clutch are all replaced together?
