On my way home for lunch today, at a stop light (thankfully), my brake pedal went instantly from normal resistance to the floor. I had to pull the e-brake to prevent myself from hitting the car in front of me. :eek: So I chose to drive it home because I was closer to home than to work. I drove no more than 20mph all the way home with the hazard lights on. Got it home okay. I've got a sizable leak on the front passenger side that I'll need to attend to after work today.

Work was so *gracious* enough to send someone to pick me up and bring me back...

It figures too... my Libby just over 100,000 miles.

Hey, at least it happened while at a stop, no damage done!

I don't know what it is yet. I had enough time to get it home, grab some lunch, let the dog out and go back to work with my co-worker. I'll find out more tonight.

You probably just need to get a set of Cross Drilled Brake Lines to fix the problem. :D

Holy crap...I can think of a few trail situations I've been in where that happening could very well have ended in death.

This is exactly how the brake line looked when I pulled the wheel off for repairs. It could have been really ugly for me if I were at interstate speeds or on a severe decline instead of just sitting at a stoplight.

The front right is fixed, and the new hose for the front left is being shipped here and will be replaced then. The crimping in the hose rusted through - it was still a factory part. All is well again.

That's the first time I have ever heard of that problem, but since mine is at 105K, I am definitely going to have a look at those lines this weekend. Glad to hear you reacted fast enough to avoid a very bad situation.

Glad to hear it did not break on a down hil.
That happend to me in my 97 TJ, after some heavy fun I was headding home and just as I was appreaching a down hill on the highway I tested my breaks like I always do and good lord I had none!

Thank god for the M/T i had and I was able to down shift my way to a safe stop.

damn, hope my 100k luck is better. will be there very shortly, miles keep adding up!

speaking of that. are these trannys picky about having fluid changed when they are older? I would like to get another fluid replacement going, but do I drain and refill or should I slowly introduce new fluid over a period of time?

It might not hurt to do a few drain and refill's on the ******, with a filter change on the last drain and refill....a very slow, but good ****** flush if you will.....with out the risk of having any crud that may be in there break loose in a normal ****** flush that a shop would do.
