11 miles per gallon.....it's not good, but is it bad?

Hi all,

Just want to check on my fuel economy.
City driving, I get 11 miles. The Jeep is lifted, bigger tires (245 R16) and a roof rack.

Does it sound excessive? It feels excessive

I get 9-12 depending on what part of the city I am driving in. Similar setup to yours.

I'm lifted all skid plates etc & get max 15 mpg highway & 8 mpg city.

So am I, my lifted XJ, on 31" MT's does better than that - & I recall being disappointed the KJ wasn't much better.

I am driving a rental Jeep Gladiator today and it got 17 mpg on my regular commute where the KK gets 12. Also it is averaging 22 on the highway. Not bad, and it has some zip. The technology has improved since 2008. Oh and this one is geared correctly for its tire size.

"City Driving" figures depend entirely on traffic. Were you stopped at lights 50% of the time? Were you accelerating to 50 and then slaying on the brakes every tenth of a mile? Really can't tell anything by comparing your city and driving with someone else's city and their driving.

Fellas , i just put a new jeep crate engine in my 06 KJ and i get about 17 around town Nd 23 highway.. those are the numbers. I have checked them several times . I have a 1.5 inch Bilstein lift and 30” tires i have the Kenda RT tires .. granted the rest of the driveline has been rebuilt also both front and rear diffs . Front suspension and trans and transfer case , front an rear drive shafts.. ac pump , alternator. Maybe because its all new is the reason . But it shows you what you can get if everything is working as it should. Maybe throw a new set of Bosh “New” injectors in it not the rebuilt ones use new ones . Thats what i did anyway..hope this helps..

But by the time the KJ came out the technology hadn't improved since '84 - at least in fuel consumption terms.

I get 15 city and 23-25 highway depending on how fast I drive (65-75). All stock 2002 Liberty Limited with 130k miles.

I get 12-13mpg (18-19 l/100km) city and 19mpg (12.5 l/100km) highway with 75 m/h (120km/h).
I have 245/75R16 with 2.5" lift and have regeared to 4.11. Before regearing I had higher consumption.
Consumption depends on whether or not it has been lifted, and if it has been regeared if lifted. Finally,
tyres... I have mud tyres for now but have already ordered RT tyres, so I expect consumption to drop a little with the new tyres.

The 3.7/4.7 was designed in the 90's, fuel mileage wasn't really a concern back then.

Other than when it was bone stock, mine has always gotten ~17-18mpg at its best... I dont believe it has ever gotten 11 but Ive never driven it purely in the city. Heck, it gets 15mpg towing a 3000 camper at 70mph in hilly terrain. Thats with 4.10 gears though.

Actually, the 4.7's better - but fact is I doubt there's another vehicle that didn't get improved mileage over the same period.
