16 year old jeep liberty

Hello, I currently own a 2004 jeep liberty sport. My 16 year old is learning how to drive. Do you believe this is a good car to learn on.

Sure is! Lots of visibility, lots of protection(just in case) and relatively
short wheel base.

Good starter vehicle, just make sure you explain the whole 'high center of gravity' thing. I liked to take curves fast when I was a kid...The Jeep won't react to well to it...

Is it a manual change? Way better to learn with than auto! If you want to drive a manual here you have to sit your test in one otherwise you end up with and auto only licence!! No good here really although most of the Asian folks that immigrate here go that way. And, if you travel to Europe MOST cars are manual!!

It's also a great vehicle for the road test. We've allowed a few relatives/friends teenagers to borrow ours for the test. It's got such great visibility both out of the vehicle and above other vehicles. Also, the turning radius is excellent for the parallel parking.

You guys have separate licenses (or are they endorsements?) for stick and auto? That's not a bad idea...

Hi,
It is a normal looking licence but it has a code on it relating to Auto only. The endorsments are limited to eyesight and the use of 'correction lenses' and booze bans if any. I guess you could call the auto only thing a type of endorsment. It does get in the list of endorsments an oficer gets when they query a licence with HQ.

Well there ain't many New Zealande born folks that can't drive a manual. Many don't but could just fine if they chose to.
It is the new immigrants ex Asia that can't and don't!! Some of them shouldn't drive at all!! Sounds terrible I know. My wife is Chinese and she can drive better than most of her friends and do get nervous

My son will be taught in my KJ. That's testimony enough.

True he'll be 30 & out of my house by then as I can't afford the insurance on a 16 year old, but the KJ is destined to be the test vehicle nonetheless.

Boy have the times changed,I learned how to drive on a John Deer tractor at age 5,bought my 1st vehicle at age 11('79 Wagoneer,$400 in '89) and had my license at age 12(farmers license in South Dakota).I would have died if I had to wait till I was 16 to learn how to drive.


Oh and the KJ is a stout vehicle and handles hard crashes very good.

Yup, same here, learned to drive when 5 as well! First got pulled over at 12 years old!
If it has wheels, I'll drive it.

My 12 year old son takes my Liberty every time we go to Grandma's house. She has 285 acrs and he loves driving over it. I did have to put a CB in the house so he could call us when he gets stuck.

I'm confused, I thought the only car with a Liberty name was made by Subaru not Jeep. Do you mean Jeep Compass, that's a car.
