Im looking at getting a 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport and wanted you'all to throw your .02 into this.

The body is in perfect condition. Interior is good, minor wear on the seats, but otherwise very well taken care of.

I went to the dealership, pulled the carfax, and the maint records, and everything there is good. regular maint was performed.

the liberty has 106k on it, but has had radiator replaced, new hoses, new belts, ****** flushed and filled. There are no leaks after driving it for an hour.

They are asking 5500 for this and offering a 3 mo/3,000 mile warranty (due to the mileage) for engine and drivetrain.

Everything works perfectly, 4 wheel drive high and low, shifts smooth, rides super smooth...

is this too good to be true?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Seems like a far price for a '02 with 100k+ miles on it with documented maintenance.

Take a clean carfax with a grain of salt,my carfax is spotless and I have a $5500 damage report on my KJ which is not on the carfax.

Seems very good, even better if it's Khaki. :p

I wounldn't be concerned with the hoses, it's a 9 year old Jeep...old ones probably dry rotted.

$5500 with a 3000 mile warranty seems like a pretty good deal.

awesome... like I stated, all the hoses and belts have been replaced. Is there anything I need them to take a look at before I drive off the lot with it? They showed me the maint report they did before they sold it to me, but are there any 'gotchas' i need them to check?

Not that I think of, since the dealer seemed to do a thorough check.

If the 4x4 badges are on the sides, then it's pre lowered. 1" higher...so that's a plus.

originally it was 1" higher. Due to chrysler's lovely coil sag its probably not any more. haha

As for zach. 02 is the best year.. enjoy the 45RFE if you get the jeep. I got mine used with 82K very clean for $6300 so I'd say they're giving you a pretty decent deal.

awesome... than you all. Im on my way to owning my first jeep. I have dreamed about this day for a while. Unfortunately, im just driving it to and from work, but have plans to take it down to southern indiana where my parents live to do some 'light' off-roading. there are not any 4x4 badges so I take it I have the extra 1" lift.

Thank you again, and i look forward to posting and reading a ton here.

Sounds like a good buy to me!

And yeah never trust Carfax.... Thats only as good as the reporting, and if it didn't get reported it doesn't go on the report. I know plenty of people who got in fender benders but their Carfax report doesn't show the accident and repairs years after it happened.

I was told that in some states they won`t put any thing under 3000$ dollar`s in damage .. Bought a car once with 20k on it and nothing showed until we put insurance on it would not have known it had 2000$ worth of damage if we didn`t have the same insurance company than the one that paid to fix it .. talk about a small world eh ?

My 02 Spor, 4x4 has been going strong.... 103k and just the typical jeep wear and tear items. Definitely look at your build date and see if she can get the upper and lower ball joints replaced per the recall...makes a big difference.

$5500 is a fair price, like tjkj said, assuming you have maintenance documents.
Personally, ThunderbirdJunkie would prefer the price to be about $1,000 lower, but you aren't going to find many 8-9 year old vehicles with flawless maintenance records, either.
Good Jeep. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Is it a 3.7 or 2.4? Auto or 5 speed stick?

I just signed over the check for it... they are detailing it and re-checking everything, there was a problem with the radio, so they are giving me a 'new' one.

I pick it up on Saturday...

and ThunderBirdJunkie... the color is "USA RED" :)
