Hi all

My KJ sometimes cuts out, without any warning, running along fine then complete loss of power, rolling to a stop, electrics are connected on the dashboard but won’t restart?
To rectify this I undo and reconnect the battery and it restarts and runs as normal.

This usually happens when going up a slight incline, not too steep.

Any ideas on what the could be or how to fix it?

Regards to all.

Any fault codes logged?
When you say 'won't start' is the starter spinning the engine but it's not firing?
My first guess would be crank angle sensor or it's wiring if there are no fault codes.

Hi
Thanks for your response, no codes logged (but I didn’t look for codes!), starter spinning but not firing.
Would a Garage be able to look for fault codes and check the angle sensor?

They can read stored codes, however if it is the crank sensor there may not be any. Testing it is tricky because you seem to have an intermittent fault.
The other thing that is worth looking at is relay 39 in the engine bay box, this is the ASD - auto shutdown, if its dropping out for some reason or knackered then it will give you the fault you have.

Thanks again KJowner
I will change the relay and see if cures the fault, if it doesn’t then I’ll change the crank sensor.
