Hello everyone and thanks for adding me. My brother dropped his liberty off. The transmission doesn't go into park however the shifter does and the key comes out but it will not start. I can move the bracket on the transmission with a bar and it will start. Is there any adjustments on the linkage?

Welcome. I'm not sure if this helps but maybe the second part of this vid will help or give you some ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDH91kEbl4I

Seems like if you pull the console there should be some cable adjustment points in there. I just can't remember specifics from the last time I had mine apart.

Otherwise, maybe someone who has had this issue will be along soon.

Ya we hear a lot of cant get the key out situation, but yours is different.
The factory manual does mention that both interlock & trans cable work together & have to be adjusted properly.
I can't seem to find out how you adjust the trans cable tho. Maybe need a new one?
I wonder is there also a bushing on the 42RLE cable, at transmission, that may be busted?
Or is there a physical limitation in shifter or cables?
If you placed the shifter into Neutral did it start then?
There is some basic instructions on interlock cable adjustments.
Read section 21-page 136 onward..Link: http://www.colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/2005JeepKJServiceManual.pdf
I hope this helps a bit..

Thanks!
Neutral is there but I have to move the shifter to find it in order to start the Jeep. Seems like all the gears are off. Reverse is close to park and so on. I have not seen anything under console for adjustment. The cable end that connects to the transmission seems tight. I'm leaning towards a new cable.

There is a set screw on the shifter knob, if you loosen the set screw and pull up on the shifter than re tighten the set screw you should be good to go.

To the OP, I think they show you where that set screw is in the later stage of the Youtube vid I posted. I think that's the one they were talking about.

I never noticed that screw. Thanks; you saved me from spending any money. I lifted it up slightly and tightened the set screw. Now it stays in place and isn't so clunky when you try to move the gear selector.

Thanks, I have done that with the set screw. It's not a interlock problem. The shifter works as it should it just doesn't push the transmission far enough.
