I can't seem to stay ahead ! This evening we started to leave the driveway in the daughters 06 . She had had just gotten home in it 15 minutes earlier . The electric fan was running but seemed to be vibrating and making a much different noise . she said it did it Friday for a little while , but failed to tell me because it quit later and did not get hot .
left her's sit tonight and took the 02 . Two hours later come home and pull hers in the shop . E fan starts running as soon as i start it . can't find anywhere it is rubbing . Unplugged it and the noise is gone . I am guessing a bearing is out ? But why would it come on after sitting two hours ? Any recommendations of a replacement ?

Thank you

One more question .. Looks like a lot of options online , but they are showing with heavy duty cooling and not heavy duty cooling . How do you know which one you have
Thank you

If you have the mechanical fan, then you have the HD cooling. Was the AC on? My WK had the singe efan and the fan would cycle with the AC. My KJ with the dual fans doesn't do that unless it's really hot out.

The HD cooling comes with the tow package if you have that. HD cooling also has a much bigger fan shroud in front of the engine.

It does have the mechanical also . It looks like that makes the replacement cost more . Not sure if A/C was on the first time she had it happen Friday . I do know it was yesterday when I heard it the first time . After we came home last night it had sat for two hours . It has a vibrating type pitch to the sound of it if that makes any sense .
I see that some replacements can be bought complete with a shroud or without for about 50$ less . Any of you have any experience with these ? I would like to think I could bolt a fan to a shroud but how well do they fit OEM . Don't really want to coble it up , but man That is a lot of money !

Thank you

you can just buy the e-fan and bolt it to the shroud.

I have an aftermarket dorman replacement. no issues.

You'll need to remove the clutch fan in order to remove the shroud. One mod that most of us have done is to cut a notch at the bottom of the shroud so it clears the clutch fan while still bolted on the WP.

Or if you're willing to part with the clutch fan, I'm willing to give you the slimmer E-Fan for the cost of shipping. Might even pay you a few bucks if you want to send the clutch fan my way. I swapped to an HD shroud myself.

somehow I lucked out yesterday and was able to get the thing out without taking the clutch fan off . I gave it a try with a large adjustable wench and a large hammer . couldn't break it loose . I was able to lift the unit straight up and there are two little tabs on the clutch that caught as i rotated the fan it came out . oreilly or autozone had one so we had to order it for tomorrow . Hopefully it will go in as easy .
thank you for the help
