Purchased 2 wks ago from neighbor. All receipts since 2008.. we'll cared for with rebuilt in 2012 @ 127k miles for $2,556 incl torque converter.
Lost reverse and drive would only go a 100 yes.
Reputable local shop inspection reveals transmission needs rebuild foe $4554. 3yr/200k warranty (which ever comes first)
My question is what brand of rebuilt transmission to ask for and/or stay away from?
Much appreciate opinions/ comments.

Unless Im missing your point are you asking for off the shelf/vs local transmission builder?

You got a quote from a "local reputable shop" I havent looked into off the shelf rebuilds but i doubt they will be much cheaper. I would stick with a local shop so if you have issues you can deal with them personally.
42RLE parts are getting hard to find and expensive. I just rebuilt my own this fall and was into it for $1800 in parts before I could blink. I spent alot of time trying to find as many jobber parts as I could to keep costs down. That transmission has dealer only parts the are stupidly overpriced, and becoming hard to get.

Not what you want to hear, but thats my experience....Good luck

Thanks 24turbo. I've mean the remanufactured transmission like Street Smarts, Silver or Jasper suppliers. One is probably just as good as the other but was wondering if anyone had a preference or experience with any of these.
