Jeep has transitioned a little more into on-road presence- yup they are not kidding~!!
It use to be a Jeep is a Jeep...notice how many times in this article they said "car"
I guess car like...is where things are heading...make them light, fuel mileage, "cute" and many will buy.
How can they name this a Renegade?...30mpg great..too small -The Fiat look?
Off road...really..?? You mean dirt country road rated? :icon_rolleyes:
I suppose they have a segment for on road daily use though.
Popular for lady snow drivers?
I guess the words steel bumpers/skid plates & winch probably would not apply for this car.
The only real seriously modifiable jeeps left are now Wrangler.
What happened to Innovation Jeep Pick Ups....Real "new" Jeeps Anyways?
IMHO Fiat is responsible for the new product lines and are destroying the name "JEEP"

Still a baby jeep, but if you ask me this vehicle is more of a fiat than a jeep. If you read closely the article states the baby jeep cannot actually be called trail rated because it cannot tackle the great Rubicon Trail like our real jeeps can.

The renegade gets a trail rated sticker.

Tbh, if there is still a 2 dr and 4dr wrangler for sale then no reason to worry about the rest of the range. There a still machines built for the real tough stuff.

The liberty was a great compromise vehicle (mine drives better than my wrangler unlimited) but market demands have moved on. The rest of the world definately needs efficiency and even here I see more prius than anywhere else I have lived. I think the Cherokee trailhawk with the v6 is about as good follow up as can be expected.

Look at whats happening at Landrover, even the defender stops next year and its pretty much promised there will not be a solid axle anywhere near the new one.

Isn't the "Renegade" basically a short wheel base Cherokee with its own sheet metal and glass area? Kind of like the difference (or lack of) between a Compass and Patriot?

Different platform. One is the new small car and the other midsize. (Dart)

I'm not gonna form an opinion until I get to drive one...I'm old enough to remember people going ballistic over the introduction of the XJ, the ZJ, the KJ, etc..."It's not a REAL Jeep!"...I met the Jeep engineers at Camp Jeep in 2002...they're not fools...

If you go to jeep.com and select Renegade from Vehicles...you can see what is available in your area....my zip code shows several units from local dealers listed as 'in transit'.....FWIW

local dealer has one in stock, just a 2wd model.
I dislike it less than I thought I would. It's kinda neat, not quite cool.
Looks like a Jeep toaster.
