I'm getting ready to pull the hook on a new set of Goodyear Duratrac's, but can't decide if I should just stick to 245/75-16's recommended by the manufacturer of my 2.5" lift, or if I could push it and go with 265/75-16...

Right now I'm just sitting on the lift, but I do have the ability to gain another inch with an additional clevis lift if the tires rub......just not sure if I'm pushing my luck with the bigger tire, so I'm looking for opinions here.....

Also....I've been running with 1.5" wheel spacers with the 235/70-16's on it now, would the larger tires increase the strain on these spacers, and maybe take them off, or will I still need them for clearance....?

My first lift was a 2.5" rustys spacer lift. A week after that I put on 265/75r16s I had to cut the shit out of my wheel well, fender and pinch weld just to get it home. Then it sagged over the course of a few months. Finally I went to OME/Rancho/KK clevis yada yada ya and I'm sitting at like 3.5-3.75" of lift. No rubbing at all not even at full lock. My suspension binds before my tires rub. Oh I also have the 1.5" spacers. And they were on the stock rims. Now I have moabs which stick out way more and still no contact. Also another thing to consider is the gas mileage with the bigger tires. I averaged 12.4 in Ft.myers, FL. Now I'm over in Boca Raton and seem to keep it at 13. Hope this helps.

hey kj weston,
monday im putting my 2.5" daystar lift kit on my 06 liberty along with skyjacker hydro7000 rear shocks. im putting on 265/75/16 firestone destination mt's just to balance it out for 2wks until i can buy a set of 245/75/16 goodyear wrangler authorities. I do not want to run my stock 225/75/16 wrangler ST's. my question is, will i have minimum to maximum rubbing and if so, how much? i barely off-road my kj and its mainly a daily driver for me. if you could explain in anyway, i would appriciate it. hope youg et this before monday!

Thanks Chase,
I do have my front bumper trimmed up fairly tight, and my pinch welds are already pounded, I was thinking that if I added the clevis lift I might be able to get away with the 265's, but I wasn't even considering the mileage issue....
I'll probably stick to the original plan and just stay with the 245's.....

In reality it depends how much your suspension has already sagged. And since it's a spacer lift. It will multiply the rate at which they sag. You will most likely encounter maximum rubbing. A large portion of your wheel well in the front will need to be cut out and possibly some of the fender's edge. I cant remember since it was a while ago. Also plan to pound your pinch welds BEFORE you put those 265s on. The welds will chew your tires up on the way home if you don't. Also expect it to rub on the sway bar at close to full lock. So be conscious of that when backing out and turning sharp. I am currently running with no wheel well liner things (the black plastic) because mother nature decided to rip then off. Haven't had problems with it since so that could also be a quick option to avoid cutting those. Hope this helps. Lemme know if there's anything else I can answer.

My original plan was to go with 265/70-16's, they would run about the same diameter as the 245/75, but wider, and since most of my off road driving is on the beach....wider is better....

But I really like the Goodyear Duratrac tire, only problem is they don't make a 265/70-16, so I'll have to settle on the 245/75-16.....again, same diameter, just not as wide....

The original tires that came on this Renegade were the 225/75-16, and they actually did OK in the sand, not great, but they never got me stranded. No reason I shouldn't be able to navigate the sand in 245/75-16's, and I won't have to worry about tire rub, or further modifications to avoid it.....

i had 265/70 Firestone Destination A/Ts and they were great in the sand, the Duratracs i have now actually dig in more then the Firestone and theyre the same width.

If you don't want problems go with the 245-75s. Like stated with the stock springs etc. its going to keep sagging so even if you do not hit right now it will, even if you do a clevis.
Mileage is another problem with the 265-75s takes some extra ponies to get them rolling through town.
I don't hit anywhere at all and still have inner fenders and have not cut anything out except to install the ARB, but then I am sitting at 4.5 inches of lift or better.
So again save yourself some grief and go with 245-75s
