Check this out, I brought my 06 KJ back to the dealer because it appears to me that the a/c seems to be always on i.e refrigerated air comes out regardless of whether I have the I have the a/c button on/off. This to me suggests that the a/c clutch is not disengaging. The dealer told me that this normal operation and that he checked other Jeeps in their yard and they all do it to dehumidify the air. My question is if the a/c is supposed to be on all the time, then why have an a/c button and an a/c clutch for? :-s

I have an 05 and I was under the impression that the A/C works - 1) when you push the A/C button and - 2) also when you turn on the defroster when the A/C button is off. This is to help defrost (de-humidify). These are the ONLY times. If it works all the time - as indicated - and blows cold air when you have the heater on then something is wrong for sure.

It also turns the ac compressor on when in the floor mode, when you would like to only have heat you get ac to dry the air

The settings that turn the A/C system on are all the defroster vents (floor and dash) and the A/C button itself.

I believe on the new models with the buttons, you just set the dial to whatever level you want, and if you want a/c, you turn the button on?

If this is the case, the best way to test if your a/c is stuck on would be to pop the hood, run the engine and turn the dial to whatever NON DEFROSTER position you want, and make sure the a/c button is off. This SHOULD allow only the outside air to come in through the vents, and the a/c compressor should NOT be cycling.

If this is the case your a/c is fine, and the reason it feels like its blowing cold is that it takes a little bit for the really cold air to work out of the vents and the regular air to come in. Atleast on mine thats how it works. But I have an 03 with a different set-up than yours.

Not true

Bob

Can you elaborate a little bit more? I appologize, but i'm not extremely familiar with the new systems on the newer models.

One last thing that you have control of, probably a big brother idea that said if you rode with the climate control in floor mode, your windows will fog up and since they probably figure we don't have enought sense to clear the window, will drive into something and get hurt.

Yea really! I was thinking of getting an 05 control thingy and I dont think I will now. I was wanting to cut out the fan on the 4 position and use that to turn the electric fan on when I un-plug the compressor to keep it cool off-road. I do this all the time but it causes hot air to come out.
