How much do you commute daily? How often do you go offroad? What type of terrain do you wheel in?

I truly think that M/T's are overkill for most people, unless you're heading out wheeling fairly often and don't drive on the road too much. Notice I said most - some people don't mind a M/T on a daily driver.

I, personally, have been very happy with the General Grabber AT2's. I have 15k miles on them and they still have more tread than a new BFG TKO. The design is almost the same (basically a blatant ripoff of BFG), but I have been very pleased thus far. The price is excellent too.

x2 with Atrus. If you spend most/all of your time on asphalt I would consider an AT for ride and noise comfort. Unless you just want MTs then buy what you want.

For ATs I have had huge success with the Bridgestone AT Revos which are my favorite all around tire, and then the BFG AT after that.

For MTs I have always been hooked on the GY MTR. Quiet ride, great wear, awesome off-road (all IMO). BFG MT is always a safe bet as well.

I do hear/read great things about the ProComp Extreme MT and AT.

BFG AT's wear great, IMO. M/T just depends on whether you drive on the road a lot, if you do, you will wear down quite a bit. The AT's that my wife drives on have over 35k miles, mostly highway, and they are fine.

with any deep tread tire, rotation is the key to making them last

If you want a MT style tire the GoodYear MT/R is your best bet,I have run 3 sets and loved them and have gotten very good wear from them(3 sets between 2 Jeeps and 120,000miles).BFG's have super weak sidewalls(I know blew 6 sides walls in less then 200miles,AT and MT's),and avoid procrap tires like the black plaque(bad wearing and many recalls).

and if you live near muddy slop of midwest, dont get the goodyear mt/r, they clog.

really all of this depends on your location, use, idea of good tire, etc.

This is like asking blonde or brunette

I run 245/75/16 BFG AT's and find they are great on and off road. If you run mainly on pave as a daily driver, then AT's are the best choice IMO.

As far as looks go, then I would love to have some aggressive MT's.

BFG A/T's for an A/T tire. I have had good luck with them. They do like to clog in the mud though. tjkj wheels harder than most and said he had trouble with them. I don't wheel as hard as him and had no problems with them.

GY MT/R's or MT's for more off road performance but more noise on road.

It really depends on your usage like others have said.

I have been running Hankook MT RT03,

In the past i have used Maxxis Buckshot Mudders ( cheap and not bad )
Cooper STT, good sidewall lugs but got loud and i had balancing problems

The hankooks have impressed on sand , dry trails, thin mud, havent really had them in sloppy mud, they are quiet on the highway

The MT/R like ANY other MT type of tire needs wheel spin to clean out.Goose the throttle and spin those suckers and the MT/R's clean out better then any BFG.Granted the MT/R is better suited for rock but when I have went mudding back home in South Dakota the MT/R never let me down. Most of my friends now run Maxxis BigHorn radials(almsot the exact same as the MT/R) and love them to death and where wondering where these tires have been there whole life.

its my everyday driver.. I go about maybe 30 miles highway everyday. it seems to me like an at would be more practical. I live in the flat lands of illinois and do go offroad quite a bit.. but I would say I drive on pavement more than on dirt.. I heard good things on the gy mts.. do they make an at? and what is the biggest tire I could go with a 2.5 inch lift 245/70/16?

I would think with a 2.5" lift you'd be just fine with 245/75. There's always a chance of rubbing, but with the lift I would think it'd be very minimal and easily fixed.

I have a 2.5" lift with Firestone Destionation 255/70/16's. I had slight rubbing on the fog light doors in the front but nothing a dremel tool couldn't fix!:D

Where I live, my experiance has been the opposite.

Even with wheelspin, which you need to clean out any tire, the MTR's just don't dig in and grab in mud as well as most other MT's.

I, personally, am going Bighorns, Cooper STT's, or Kumhos for my next set of MT's.

As far as recalls go...the ProCraps use the same carcass as any other Cooper-built tire in similar sizes (MT ATZ, Cooper ATR, American Prospector AT, Sigma Stampede AT/S) but Cooper, unlike some other manufacturers, is quicker to recall than many others.

Course, maybe that's just me stickin up for the Ohio boys, ya know?

For me , I would like to run a true off road/mud tire every day but with needing to drive 6 or 700 miles round trip 2 or 3 times a month on weekends its impractical really, so thats why I still need a set of steel, gross looking stock wheels for my 245/75 MTRs to have fun with and keep the ATs for normal everyday running, lighter weight, run smoother etc
If I lived in Southern Ohio all the time LOOK OUT!!!!!!!

I just took the bfg mt's off and put 245/75 cheap american prospector at's on (supposedly made by cooper) for everyday (less noise, i must be getting old), you're right 245's are the right fit for the 2.5 lift, sorry I wasnt seeing eye to eye, must have been my manic phase, you have alot of good info.
