I had the AC in the Libby blow ice cold air till the clutch bearing seized which caused the coil to almost catch fire. I bypassed the AC with a shorter belt. Got a hold of a confirmed good AC compressor from a part out 03' and had a shop swap them out and recharge the system and refit the original belt. The AC now works and cools alright but blows kinda cold air and not as freezing/pleasant as before. What might be the reason?

In bold you answered your own ?.

It's a gamble if a "used" part is really any good,it's still a 14 year old part.

Too late now but you should have just installed a new clutch assembly .

They would have charged me the same coz they need to pull the old compressor off the jeep anyway. The shop mechanic said that clutch seizing might cause damage to internal seals in the compressor. Also the coil burnt as well.

Actually when I drive (not sit still) the air gets really cold. Might it just be that additional r134a gas pressure is needed?

I think I got the exact same problem (clutch bearing seized...) I guess the AC clutch come with the compressor ? I guess it's a good idea to change the accessory belt as well ?

that's what I'm experiencing with mine. I loose about 5-10 degrees when idling depending on the ambient temperature.

I wonder if it's a restricted condenser.

You have to remember that you have alot less BTU's when idling due to the compressor not running as fast but should still have ample cooling.

A restricted condenser will give a high discharge pressure - seems like alot a problems are coming from the blend doors not working properly.

Also a weak or worn out compressor will not give the proper low and high pressures to give good cooling.

Have you checked to be sure both speeds are working on your electric fan? Mine had no low speed because the low speed brushes worn out. It had similar issues.

The fan is speed is controlled by the discharge pressure sensor. I would only get high speed after the discharged pressure reached a fairly high pressure. Not having low speed hurt its performance at an idle.

On a 3.7 Liberty you don't need to remove the compressor to replace the clutch assembly , at least not on my 02 or 05 .

i have an 03 so it's single speed. Everything is working as it should.

The AC shop guy said I should get a better compressor in the future, wished he was there at the shop when I had my system evacuated. X.X
He offered to get me a denso at cost price after I had all the new parts installed.

I'm running an omega santech compressor.
