At 164k, the tensioner is probably way overdue for a replacement either way.

Probably the tensioner. I need to replace mine again the mopar tensioner I bought has too much play when the ac is on (bounced under tension) So it's new, & mopar but no good
The compressor is the hardest thing to turn the engine will power would be surprising if failing tensioners acted up.

Luckily I saved the tensioner that came with the new motor, only swapped it because I thought the brand new mopar I put on the old motor was better. Haven't replace it yet because the 13mm bolt holding the tensioner likes to try to deform at least it did with the 2012 motor. Like to get a new bolt to put it back on with.

Now the 140-50k 2006 original jeep tensioner was a little noisy but not completely worn out,
replaced it in an attempt to find a odd noise, turned out to be transmission lines bumping the frame every so often.
