Welcome to the forums.
Best to have the Jeep scanned for codes first with a good shop scanner, like a Snap On Modis ultra.
The shop will obtain all the stored codes, and we can work from there. Post codes back please.

If you do end up changing your clockspring ignore the part in the FSM that calls for an extra turn.

Wheels centered,
steering wheel centered,
clockspring centered,
all good!

I replaced the Clock spring on my 2002 Export CRD a few years ago.....not too expensive then!
This came with all possible copper tracks fitted...my original assembly only had 4 tracks as this Jeep did not have Cruise Control, Audio controls etc....only the Horn and Airbags!

New assemblies come fully populated with copper tracks and have a piece of white plastic holding the Clock Spring in the correct position...you remove this shipping plastic piece once the Clock spring is fitted.

I had previously removed the Clock Spring as I had to replace the small Ball Bearing assembly at the top of the Steering Column. The Clock Spring assembly has clear plastic window that enables you to see a "Flag" when the Spring is in the correct position so I ignored the instruction to "Give it an extra turn!" This may change with different Revision Levels!

The Clock Spring usually shows it is failing when the Steering wheel goes through a certain angle....ie. maybe it fails when turning Right but is OK when turning Left. My Airbag light came ON only when turning Right!.

Try driving in a straight line to see if errors show up.;)

If in doubt...replace it!

Always disconnect the Battery completely first and clamp the Battery Cables together for 20 minutes to drain any residual capacitance that could set off the Airbags!

Hi guys thanks for quick responses , I had the jeep in for wheel alignment and they said it needed replacement because it controls the airbags ,,didn't mention the codes, just the cycles and history of coming on when driving as soon as the wheel is turned sometimes either way left or right . everything else functions normally, horn ,cruise control etc Dealer wants $788.00 Canadian plus the core ,Rock auto now has them in stock after almost 2yrs at $688 +

Wow that is much more than I paid a few years ago for the Clock Spring for my 2002 Export CRD here in SA! o_O

Before I replaced it....I had an intermittent error caused by an in-circuit male/female connecting plug....I eventually cut off that connector assembly completely and soldered the wires straight through.

The one side of those connectors...the side facing towards the Clock Spring...had a flat metal plate that would short out all the pins as you pulled the connectors apart, obviously to stop any Back EMF setting off the Airbags!

Have you checked the connectors in that circuit?;)
