I was wondering how important it is to have the pinion reset with 245/75/16's. What will happen if I dont and how many have had it done.

You can probably live with the speedometer being off but if you have an auto transmission it may not shift correctly.

Will it hurt the trans. by not shifting correctly. It is an auto and I cant tell much of a difference with the larger tires.

I have 245/75/16 tires with a lift and never reset the pinion. I use my GPS and sometimes I am up and sometimes I am down in speeds I really do not care as it is within a couple either way. Besides radar guns are not accurate within 5 mph according to courts or over 200 yards. :) Helps to work with law enforcement and attorneys. :)
Oh and I never had any issue with my transmission, auto, other than a defective valve body which I paid for and should have done myself. *hangs head down*
