Just wondering if any of you have just said screw it on this system and just drive on with the dash lights on?

I assume you just don't have ABS anymore nor the traction control?

I'm kind of aggrivated with it and at the moment the dash is staying lit and I'm not having any stupid issues while driving like brakes clanking or torque limiting, etc. It seems it's actually worse when it's on the fritz and coming and going issues it's less trustworthy.

This time I have 2 codes for the right front wheel speed sensor. C101F front wheel speed comparative performance and C1015 right front circuit.

I have checked the wire down to the sensor and all looks good. So I assume it is the sensor and best I recall it's not replaceable. I know when I replaced my front wheel bearing assemblies the new ones came with the sensors in them. Could be wrong about that.

Anyways, I jacked it up, wiggled and turned the wheels... mainly because I am running Kelly Safari TSR tires. They have enough growl to them I can't tell if the wheel bearings are making any noise when driving. But from jacking up and all, I am going to say no. All I hear is the brakes when I spin the wheels.

Yall think it is just the stupid sensor or yall think it is the wheel bearing assembly? What a PITA.

I couldn't remember who said it, luckily it was the first thread I checked. There's the quote from the thread, and a link to the quote in the thread. I remembered someone saying they drove like it for years haha.

I’m glad I found this thread. I’ve been just driving like this for almost four years. I don’t miss the traction control (I’m for KISS like Liberty and Tom, up there), but I do miss cruise control. Looks like I have to get under the jeep soon!

Also, as far as rewiring all the way back to the sensor, maybe look into a spool of 18/2 tray cable. It has two conductors and a heavy rubber jacket. We use it for controls in wet locations.

When I was dealing with my left front wheel bearing and sensor, I do recall them being replaceable, the wheel speed sensor that's replaced may not like the tone ring and get along nicely and still throw codes.

I found a hub assembly with sensor on amazon, just swapped the whole thing out, and over 18 months its still going strong. I got two hubs with wheels speed sensors for $62 shipped in case one was a doa or failed quickly. Now I have a spare, and they are universal for if my right one fails before the china left one.

It's always nice to go oem or equivalent, but quality control on american anything is hit or miss anymore with my luck. So it was roll one die for $150+, or 2 dice for $62 with the same warranty offered.

JohnnyO had a dilly of a pickle with his wheel speed sensors.

Yeah you are right, I am looking at pictures and there appears to be an allen head holding the sensor in place. So it could be replaced if I could find one. You also reminded me of the good old warranty word lol. I looked and it's been almost exactly 6 years since I did both of mine. Still have 4 years left on the warranty. I think I will hit them up. Can't hurt to see if they will supply a replacement sensor.

In my opinion on the bearings, I looked at OEM, and I looked at Timken. In my opinion, there's Timken and then everything else is the same just about, no matter where you get them. All made somewhere in Asia or Mexico. Some things I will buy and pay more for because it's local and I appreciate being able to get parts I need today by driving over and picking them up today. But if the local place has to order it or ship it to me, I'm probably going to order myself and save the money.

Anyways, I don't have cruise so that's not an issue for me. Traction control for sure don't work though. I noticed that after running to a job after I posted this thread. I backed up a paved hill over a little wash gravel and got a solid spin out of it which I noticed right away because it never does that.

Wish I could think of a stretch of smooth dirt road I could get to 30 mph on. I really don't think it's anything to do with the bearings I heard nothing on dirt up to about 20-25 mph where I could hear without the tires growling on pavement.

My May 2002 Export 2.5L CRD Sport is very basic....no ABS, Speed Control, Traction Control at all! Also has Drum Brakes at the rear....a few months later these KJs came out with Disks at the rear!

I would like to have ABS...on my previous BMW it helped me out in some tricky situations but I get along just fine with my basic KJ!

Need to get the Rear brakes seen to....brakes OK but have not touched them for some years now....front Disk Rotors look fine and pad wear is fine but I will have them checked out as well.;)

I drive a lot in the winter with the christmas tree lit.
All those nanny aids SUCK when plowing. I'm frequently doing everything that would piss off the system, which just kills the groove i'm usually in: crossed up, sideways, spinning tires. :D Although with the studded snows installed, that does happen a lot less to begin with.

Yeah I would imagine it would get on your nerves plowing because it would get all confused and it's confusing to the driver when you haven't felt it in a good while. Especially the torque limiting. The natural response is to let off and be like what just happened when what you need to do is just press more. But yeah, sometimes you just need a good agressive spin and plowing is an example.

I imagine you just pop the hood and unplug the right front sensor to override it for plowing?

Ironically, it started raining here today. It reset on the fly on it's own within a mile and the lights have stayed off since.

Kinda makes me wonder if water can reach the air gap of the sensor at the tone wheel? I never paid much attention to it when I switched my assemblies several years ago. The sensors were included so there wasn't a reason to pay any attention.

A speed sensor itself is replaceable, but if the problem lies within the trigger wheel, the entire bearing needs to be replaced. The speed sensor's signal can be checked with an appropriate scan tool or an oscilloscope. With the oscilloscope, you typically compare the sensor's output signal of the wheel in question with that of another side while driving straight down the road (assuming all wheels are similar diameter). If the voltage waveforms look vastly different from one to the other, you know you there's a problem.

I've heard of people using multimeters instead of scopes to diagnose speed sensors, but the info you get from that is quite limited.

nah I pull the ABS fuse. i'm working on a way to do that with a switch on the dash.
