Every single gasket leaks on my kj right now. Only has 95,000.

My zj has 227,000 and after changing the rear main, it currently has no leaks.

I use synthetic blend, have 99,000 miles and don't use a single drop between oil changes. The PO used dino oil until I got it with 79,000 on it.

I've noticed a little increased loss since changing to full synthetic. Not dramatic, but before the switch I never had to add oil. Now, I am having to top off periodically between changes.

As soon as I posted that I knew you were going to say that!

I feel like I drive it about perfectly. I drive it at least every 2 weeks and typically when its not raining and such. It seems to average 3-4,000 a year. Ive been driving it more lately when its really cold and I dont want to leave it outside and put my ZJ in the garage. Winter of 2013 I let the KJ sit outside all winter while the ZJ was in the garage so it would be warm on those -30F mornings. Last winter I drove the kj during the -30F snow storms since I put street tires on the zj...

so I just recently tried "full synthetic".
Started off with the supertech. Now I'm on mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic.
Actually noticed a difference with how the engine sounds when it's running.

I was still burning oil regardless. I wonder whether there will be a difference with w/ mobil 1. Highly unlikely.

I use mobil 1 esp 5w-30. Oil consumption is proportional to fuel consumption(I mean a lot. I keep a 4 liter oil box in trunk). It makes me anxious. Next week I will change PCV. I hope consumption will decrease.
Pcv ***** that oil into the intake, try a catch can and empty frequently in cold months.

I use a catch can type set up and you will collect oil and water in it. I also get to see how much blow by the pistons have.

The "synthetic causes oil leaks" is a myth. What happens is the synthetic, which has much better cleaning properties than conventional oil, will start to clean away sludge buildups you may have. That could also mean it's removing gunk that may be packed up and preventing a bad gasket or seal from leaking. If you start to get a leak after putting in synthetic, it means your gaskets or seals were already bad, but the build up of gunk was masking it. The synthetic oil wasn't the cause, it was the side effect. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic in everything, the good outweighs the (maybe in a stretch) bad.

^ I concur with CatusJack.

It's just like changing transmission fluid after 100k; if the ****** bombs after that, it likely had something wrong with it anyhow, the fluid change just accelerated the inevitable.

After I change my leaking valve cover gasket, A. I'll get a good idea on if I have a sludge issue, which I dont believe I do. And B. I'll switch it over to synth.

No point in putting in 2-3x the cost motor oil just to have it leak out the back corner of the right VC gasket and soak my O2 sensor and exhaust pipe...

The other option for you guys with higher mileage, keep doing whatever you've been doing. It made it 180k miles with whatever you've been putting in, why would we think it to be any different going forward?

Agreed. If you are relying on sludge and dirt for your engine to run without leaking your vehicle has reached a very sad state of maintenance.
