Are there any 3.7 V6 engines that would fit in a 03 Liberty that don't use HOAT?

Going to the mechanic who replaced my engine on Tuesday for leaking water pump(6 month warranty on the engine), and last time I was there, they insisted that the engine took the green stuff. I was gonna counter with my owners manual and everyone here saying that it took HOAT, but I remembered the one mechanic telling me when they got the engine, there was something on it that told them it was made after 2010. They cannibalized the old engine for some parts, but told me they didn't swap the newer water pump on my old engine to the "new" engine, because swapping parts can sometimes cause problems.

Is there a chance that there is an engine, that would fit in the Liberty, that would not require HOAT, or are all the engines from that "family" meant to run on HOAT for a particular reason?

My 2011 Avenger takes HOAT as does my dad's 2010 Dodge minivan. These of course would not fit in the liberty but they are of the 2010 vintage. I would say no.

You really need a new place to take your KJ
and no most everything Chrysler/ Jeep has requires HOAT and there are very good reasons for it
Not just all we have is the green crap so we'll use it and tell him it's fine

Yeah, it's not my normal guy, it was the guy who did the engine swap. I'm going back because I have a 6 month warranty on the engine. My normal mechanic is great except for his seeming hatred of spring hose clamps and love of screw ones.

I printed out the coolant page from the service manual and the page from the owners which say HOAT only and am gonna leave it when I drop it off. I would love a nice little sticker for my tank which says something along the lines of "HOAT ONLY: Addition of any other type of coolant will result in bill for flush and proper coolant fill".

Yeah. As soon as the 6 months is up, I'm taking her down to Jeep and getting a flush and fill of the right stuff and maybe finally get my recalls fixed. How much is the F+F on average?

Even with a copy of the service manual and the owners manual I left on the drivers seat, I was told "That's only for new engines from the factory."

local small claims courts throw the book at mechanics.

As a contractor, we had a mobile mechanic doing stuff like that and by the time we caught it and stopped him, it cost us a ton.

In the end we won and he was forced to cover all the costs of repairs, lost time for the employees left waiting, and even some lost revenue (his actions impacted 14 service trucks/vans).

stuff like this is why I do all of my own work. Distilled water is cheap at your grocery store ($1.25 a gallon here).

I have done some of my own repairs to her. The problem is that when they installed the engine, they put the coolant in. I protested when I picked it up, because I knew from here & other places to avoid the green stuff. They assured me it was the right stuff, I didn't need HOAT, and something about silicates. Since it was in already, adding HOAT would have been a bad idea, so I've been waiting for the warranty to run out before I have it flushed.

I'm sorry, I cannot stand the thought of leaving the wrong fluid in there. I also cannot stand the thought of people getting taken advantage of.
I don't pretend to know for sure that it will damage your engine, because that depends on exactly what composition it is and color alone isn't enough to diagnose that. But it could, and every time you drive it any damage would be getting worse.
Will it fail before 6 months is up so you can use that warranty? Strong maybe. What if it fails exactly 3 days after your warranty is up and our new mechanic tells you it was BECAUSE the wrong coolant was used, now you have an even more uphill battle.

the mechanic that installed the wrong fluid should be held responsible for fixing the mistake, and for any damage caused by it. allowing the warranty to run out isn't going to help this case, and every day you have the wrong fluid in there, the more potential for damage.

Would you let them put the wrong oil in your car and then still drive it around (to get the 3000 out of it of course)?

If anyone would of put anything other than HOAT in mine, at this point I would be doing a flush along with new water pump, thermostat, and heater core since it has affected all of them

For all I know, the wrong oil COULD be in the car. Same with the other fluids. Even if I paid for the flush and fill right afterwards, the guys likely would have put the wrong fluid in on top of the right stuff when they did the waterpump, requiring me to have it done again. I know when I go to my good mechanic, I'll have the work done properly, but he didn't have the time for a big repair and I needed my vehicle back, so I went with a mechanic that was recommended by a lot of people at my old job.

I honestly just don't have much fight in me right now. I just "celebrated" the 6 month anniversary of my house fire and the death of my cats and I'm still living in a friends basement.
