Now's the time to start planning for a short notice snow run!!!
I mentioned in another thread that we are supposed to get our first significant winter storm today (rain in the valley, snow above 6,500 ft) when o8k started talking about playing in the mud and rompin in the snow. For those who've never been to Phoenix... yes, a winter rain storm is a big deal here in the Valley of the Sun and is actually headline news.
The two trails I have in mind are:
- Four Peaks, Wells #44 (we ran this last summer, when it snows it's an entirely different trail).
- Bradshaw Mountains, Wells #34, which runs from Bumble Bee to Crown King and then on into Prescott via the Senator Highway. This is a very scenic and interesting run after a light to moderate snowfall.
When the snow hits the higher elevations, I'll bump this to the top for those that can make a short notice run.
Here are a couple of pics to get you interested:
Driving towards Four Peaks from the 'Rolls' area...
Four Peaks (since we were alone, we didn't attempt to go across to the other side)...
I threw these in to show what happens when we get a few days of heavy rain in Phoenix (it's only happened once the twelve years we've been here). Photos taken at 67th Ave, just north of Southern on New Year's Day 2005.
The Salt River, a normally dry river bed, actually becomes a river...
People turn out to see a river with water in it...
