Dang kids never listen. I told them Bert (2007 KJ 3.7L) was old and tired and deserved to be taken care of and only used around town.

Instead of having me troubleshoot a starting issue, they just threw a new starter in on their own. Good for them...

Then they drove it down to Lincoln, NE an hour a way and lo and behold, Bert wouldn't start.

So the venerable beast got towed to my place and now I gotta troubleshoot.
Has power, but nada action on the starter. Not even a click. Fairly certain what the issue is.(Will follow up on future posts.)

So I'll be posting the process on here as I used to do.
I'm sure I'll have questions and hopefully provide some answers for others.

Fin fun fun. Wrenching on the Original Sciencemobile!

Hmmm.
Electrical is good. Suspect is wrong starter or is improperly torqued. Tough to troubleshoot when you don't know what all happened.

Just a thought. Try starting it with the gear selector in Neutral. If it starts then there may be a safety switch at the shifter that needs adjustment. The key should only crank over the starter if the shifter is in Park or Neutral. Worth a try.

Might be as simple as the solenoid wire isn't connected anymore. I got a bargain on a starter from rockauto that was a Delco reman that they discontinued, got it for $60 after core return and somehow they are still selling the same one for $30 more plus the same core charge

Truth, but thus far all rings out good.
