blacked out wheel with plasti dip trial #1

put a coat on my spare today. it has a little texture that i wasnt expecting but that may be b/c its so hot here.

Does plastidip stick to plastic? I've heard that it will peel off the paint so you can do the emblems, but I am interested in plastidipping my flares.

The wheel looks good though, I think that's a pretty cool option.

how did you get the paper inbetween the rim and the tire?! and it looks very good!

i taped all the way around the rim. then started with the paper. i did notice that a small section right up close to the tire didnt get covered so i may need to do a little touch up. since its textured i may peel it and start again

I seen playing cards being used to mask off. Looks to be easier that way. I'm curious how well this holds up please keep us informed...

It should work fine on your flares but I don't know that it would hold up well. Bed liner would probably be better for that Application IMO.

one side done. i ran out of dip so one side is gone be black and the other bare. ebony and ivory!!!! before and after.......

that is one killer KJ. i really want to do the matte black on mine too when i get the time/money, it looks sweet with those black rims. i personally like the stock rim design. good work on the ride though

I know this is diggin up an old thread but do i need to scuff the rims at all? my clear or whatever coating is peeling so im concerned that would show up just like it would with spraypaint

dont scuff your rims. just apply it. to my knowledge, this stuff peels off like paper, so if you decide you don't like it you can take it off. scuffing your wheels will make them look terrible if you ever decide to remove the plastidip

Wow I expecting about 5 cans. Ok sounds good. Im gonna do my spare first and see if I like it. But , on a different note I was playing with the idea of doing the flares , grill and bumpers. Also the lower section of the doors. But I read that bed liner was recommend.
