Another blown Bilstein...probably my 4th one but first front one. Has about 80-90k on it. What else is good for the front shocks? OME? Ironman?

I'm glad I went Ome in the front.
Even on hard trails with front end bouncing around, I thought I may have to replace them.
Years later they still perform well.

Always used OME on CRDs but never had any issues with them on a gasser

And are you running boots or not? I always thought boots just kept crap in.
Rockauto says they have some Rancho RSXs in stock, those might be worth a shot. Just trying to decide if I want to pony up for OMEs or not because that'll deplete the Rene lift fund....

They stopped making the RSX line back in 2007 or 2008 wonder how they have some ??

I ran two different setups with the RSX shocks, loved them
I see the RS line on RockAuto but not the RSX's
RS is about the same as a Monroe shocks , cheap if you are selling in next couple of months

I see they offer a Bilstein 5100 with adjustable ride height. I didn't know they made such a thing. Wonder if that would be good, or about the same as adding a preload spacer to the spring? If you mount it up with a ome spring wouldn't you just reduce negative travel making your Jeep ride like poo?
I would never mix a lift spring and that type of shock, I think it would make it ride like poo
PLUS shocks are nor or ever have been designed to provide lift, now granted some like the Monroe Load levelers that are made with a coilover type spring do provide extra hauling capacity and some height they are designed as such. Those Bilsteins have been out quite a while now, but you do not here much about them on any vehicle

Yes as I posted they have the RS line, which are a cheaper grade shock but NOT the RSX which was a shock on par with the Bilsteins and OMEs we all use
Those front adjustable shocks maybe OK for a while but I would never run or promote them in any way
shocks were never designed to provide any lift, they are only there to control bounce , springs provide the height/lift etc
I suppose on a grocery getter driven a few miles a year to the mall they would last but .......................................
Guessing we need a class on suspensions, shocks, springs etc soon.
Oh and if you buy into the whole adjustable shock thing there are tons of manufacturer vids that say what they are doing is the very best LOL, I want to see them do a 100,000 mile long term test on real roads

HJ I suppose it is a personal preference however I decided to use the boot.
I guess it does protect & besides, I thought it looked cool ! (ha ha)

I used to run the boots on all of mine
But no more, haven't on the 03 since its been lifted ( over 60,000 miles now ) with no issues
of course the adjustable coilovers never came with boots at all
which on the 04 been over 120,000 miles

I was going through my notes/texts/ manuals etc and wow, I could do 4-5 hours easily LOL
Have never done YouTube , but with my wife becoming a " Zoom " expert now teaching several classes a week at the University, maybe she could teach an old dog some new tricks!

While I think this is a cool idea, you're likely to only get those of us who are willing to do the research and find answers also being the only ones watching. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Yes they do that is how I got my rear 5100s
also the coilover rear shocks some of us ran/run, they are lifetime as well or used to be. I have two new sets here that I got that way
