Hey guys, I’ve searched and maybe it’s just not a thing with the liberty, but I come from a tuner car, and a sport bike, I’m always looking for hp/torque gains, and overall performance improvements, I know these aren’t performance/speed machines, but what kind of bolt ons or parts/sensor upgrades are common with the liberty to give the 3.7 a little better performance? Has anyone experimented with parts from other 3.7 powered vehicles? Note: I have an 06 liberty sport 65th anniversary edition

None. It’s basically a niche motor and largely ignored. Even moreso now that it’s no longer used. Heck, I couldn’t even find a set of headers new or used!

The 3.7 is already pretty maxed out for what it is. I was doing some reading about the Kenne Bell company making a supercharger about 10 years ago to add a modest amount of boost to the 3.7. Short story is it was pulled because it blew up the engines without stronger pistons and rods. Most tuning chips and “cold air” intakes also make no discernible increase in performance on the 3.7. The Hypertech Max Energy tuner may be the exception to that, with some people claiming a horsepower gain that is not un-learned by the engine’s computer. But it only works through the 2010 model year, because the OEM programming changed in 2011.

If you're able to find entire axle housings/assemblys for a gear upgrade, that'll be your best bet of a bolt on upgrade that you can feel.

Or gear swap in general, but that's a lot more measuring and it's less of a bolt on mod.

Eh not really, just good negotiation. The heads are only $1600. The real cost will be the full forged bottom end. I have a few applications in for quotes on them. I'll post when I know but it'll be $$$$$$$ for them either way. I plan on keeping my 08KK forever so looking at it as a 5-10 year project spreads the cost out. I know cost to result ratio is low but it's what I want to do.

Flyinryan will tune the 3.7. He claims they tune well, but Ive never looked into it.
Hemifever does (or did anyway) as well but it depended on PCM p/n. I think the older SCT is the only one compatible for the KJ if memory serves. Got him to throw some tuning for the ex's Liberty.

I’ve put a throttle tuner on my 2012 Liberty. And from what I have gathered you can put a throttle body from a 4.7 mile brew 3.7. Have to speak n it a quarter turn on the mounting, and has to be a certain year. I guess to match the plug. Only performance upgrades I know about.

don't put a 4.7 throttle body on the 3.7 and call it good. Without it being tuned and changing the volume of air able to be in the motor you won't get positive results.

The Liberty is a great offroad vehicle when properly equipped. I think if you go for performance in the traditional hot rod sense you will wind up broke and disappointed. Trick it out as an offroad/expedition vehicle and you will be delighted. (You might still end up broke, but you'll have a lot more fun getting there.) ;)

I have yet to figure out why people think putting a larger TB on an engine without changing that engine's need for more air is the best thing in the world...
