Recently while driving my jeep liberty 06 had a broken front ball joint! which almost caused an accident! was not more serious because it was too slow!
I purchase this vehicle 3 months ago!
I noticed that there is a recall for my vin number vehicle but it is not informed by Chrysler in Brazil!
This is a clear disrespect to the consumer and to driver and passengers lifes!
I repaired the left side and buy another in Ebay, waiting to get the other side to change, I never imagined that this jeep was so weak!
Here in Brazil, local dealer sells this part for over US$ 300.00
put some pictures!
greetings from Brazil!

Always amazed me how they fail at low speeds.

I would most likely not go to the dealer. Moog sells a nice greasable replacement

Sorry this happened to you but it is a wear item and should be checked on a regular basis. When was the last time you checked them and the rest of the front end parts?

Hi Tommud!
this is a great car in Brazil, our gasoline is crap and has a mixture of 25% ethanol, engine has 213 cv with it and consumption in the city is 4-5 km per litre, 7-9 km/l travelling about 120-140 km per hour(80-90 m/h) but the roads are bumpy and full of obstacles, The First thing I did when it was bought check all the suspension and found no apparent problem!
never had a car that broke this piece, could have killed me!
I'm glad it broke the car almost stopped!

Wow, ive never seen that before. Typically the ball gets pulled out of the socket, thats wild. Nothing you could've done to prevent that!

Check the uppers while youre there, they are known for failing also.

Hi Jeepster,
I just heard a big bang, I thought the tire had burst, but when I checked the tire was ok! I had to take the drive away and ran for about 10 meters, which damaged the wheel!
just imagine what would have happened if I was on the highway at 140 km per hour!
But the worst is that the Chrysler in Brazil does not report to any recall for this vehicle!

'06 KJ's never had a LBJ recall, only '02-'05's.That LBJ break you experienced was from the rough roads in your country as you stated.

but the roads are bumpy and full of obstacles,

That type of break just happens from abuse, not a defect. The LBJ recalls was from the ball stud separating from the socket not breaking the ball stud itself.

My bad it was '07's that are not covered under that recall but your failure is not due to what the recall is fixing.

This has happened to me 3 times in 13 years... Once due to recall... But Chrysler wouldn't cover me for it since I had "modified my suspension"... once due to abuse neglect and stupidity... Once because i used a cheapo replacement part... When #2 happened... Just make sure to change all the parts on both sides... And buy quality parts like moog... and change it all Within the same time frame... And you will be good to go...

And yet I bet the Jeep was unscathed in the front end besides that ball joint after every incident. One weak part. The rest tough as nails.

I bought this car 3 months ago and I guess it never ran on dirt road and has no scratch or dent on the bottom and it's all original manufactures and very well maintained! It seems that the pivot was cracked because it has marks and wrinkled, when I spent a bump it just break!

Every time it happened I end up having to change just about everything up front lol... This was me being OCD ... But always better to do both sides no matter that your doin.. Upper and Lower ball joints, inner and outer toe rods, R&P bushings, sway bar links, and depending on which side... The cv as well...
