Can it be done?

Hey guys... My father in law is very skilled mechanically and REAL good with repairing just about everything on our Jeep so far. Next weekend he will be replacing all 4 ball joints upper & lower. I ordered a complete new strut / shock set with the coils already on the struts. They are here in their boxes. Shop wants $240 total to install with an alignment as well. I want to know if the struts can be done pretty easy by him since he will already have the front end apart repairing the ball joints or are they a ballbuster job? Thanks, God bless

If they are already together ( coil and shock, not struts ) then yes easy to swap out
And yes if he has new ball joints to install and new UCAs then everything is apart and easy to get to
Did you get MOOG greaseable LBJ and a good set of UCAs ?
Actually though you got a really good price from the shop with alignment included, alignment's can be 80-100 bucks in some areas by themselves
Many parts stores rent the equipment to install the lower ball joints, well rent and when you return get your money back
Since he will have it all torn down anyways with spindle loose , real easy since you can have the spindle out and laying in front of you
For a first timer it may take 4-5 hours ( rear springs and shocks are super easy ) but if any questions we're all here to help
Measure from middle of left front wheel to bottom of flare before and after alignment and post up

No new rear coils from what I see , need them as well
rear shocks , you need new springs as well, weak worn out springs will wear out new shocks quicker since you will over work the shocks

also what lower ball joints ? There are a lot of them out there that are not worth the time to install

Received the rear coils today. Gonna install everything now and hope the ride is much better

Stock style coils and shocks are very weak from the factory, so it will be somewhat better than it was for sure. Another 55-60000 be ready again

Firestone has a lifetime alignment plan. I paid $120 in 2007 and that's it. Alignment can be checked every 6 months or 6000 miles for life. I think I've had it done about 16 times (works out to $7.50 a time so far, less as time goes by). The 2022 cost is $200 but they often have coupons that can get it down to $160. Plus, if you get their card, there is 6 months no interest.

No matter whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right. A great Henry Ford quote I love that doesn’t really fit as it kinda ignores the cost of “think you can”. On some level everything I try with this Liberty is kinda ball-b*llbusting and yet worthwhile and I still keep trying. God speed to you.

Where I used to live, 4 firestone stores in 50 mile radious and none were worth a plug nickle
Will never use one
