Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Cats don't give you hp. They are emission control devices.
They also don't take away if the engine is in good working order and maintained.

Just think of this, the Bugatti Veyron SS makes 1200HP with cat's,tops out at 267mph with cat's,and in most major cities the air exiting the tail pipe is almost cleaner(in some cases is cleaner) then the air entering the intake.

The cat's along with other items like VVT and direct injection all combined makes the engine more efficient and can make more power to take advantage of a more complete and controlled combustion.

Race engines are a different breed and purpose built, they also don'r have to survive 100k+ miles of use over 10-20 years.

I agree with everything you said but that paragraph. Take away the cats on a stock engine and it will get the same mpg, power and it will last just as long.

That's kinda like saying the regeneration system on most diesels these days adds power. It doesn't.

Take away the cat's on a vehicle with cat's built after 1996 it will make less power and get worse mpg's and there is really nothing to prove or disprove it will last as long or not but it will run richer at all times which can lead to more wear in hotter temps.

Put non foulers on the o2's and the computer and engine will know no difference. It will run the same...

Diesels are a whole different animal compared to gas engines.

Same concept. The catalytic converter and the regeneration system do the same and only thing of reducing emissions. Not adding power or helping the engine run smoother or longer.

No it will not. Those things just keep a steady 500mv to the PCM indicating the cats are functioning but the down stream O2's in some vehicles can and do effect how the PCM controls the fuel(more common on newer vehicles).

It's not as simple as you think it is.

Things are fast becoming less simple than we would like them to be. What I am referring to is.

I know this. Some people like to make a little noise. If done right it can make some sweet sounding noise. Why do I have to keep justifying different mods? KJs come stock not being able to do much at all. They are quiet, slow and not too offroad capable from the factory. They are not rock climbers. They are not mud machines. They are not dragsters. Yet people put lift kits, suspensions, exhaust, and engine mods. They can be made into anything the owner desires. Don't knock something just cause its not your cup of tea.
You can do whatever your little heart desires, but a V-6 in a KJ/KK will never be a sweet sounding ride going down the road with open exhaust.
No one said you have to justify mods by the way, its your money to waste the way you want. Since you don't know what my cup of tea is you can only assume that it is different than your's or that I or some of the rest on here may have done / tried the same things you are suggesting :icon_mrgreen:

You can put whatever you want on either side if you install a cutout. It dosn't have to be an open exhaust. You can have stock on one side and magnaflow on the other. You are assuming just as much as me.

I think I deleted a CAT backing out of the drive and have experienced no gain in HP?

So can a good car stereo. Why not buy one of those instead?

You don't. No one is going to drive over and try and stop you from doing whatever you want. The problem is that you are expecting other people to endorse "justifying different mods" they don't believe to be a good idea, then when they don't play along you get irritated with them.

If you want honest opinions you need to be prepared to have people disagree with you at times. If people had just automatically said "yeah, go for it" for every harebrained idea I have put forth here I would have wasted a lot of money and had a lot of hassles I would rather have done without. Those honest opinions have saved me from a lot of mistakes, but only because people told me the truth - even if it wasn't necessarily what I wanted to hear. :)

Go back and read. I wanted no endorsement. I asked if anyone had done it. I got disagreed with and we debated like grown ups. Then someone felt the need to imply I was ******** and say I went to special Ed cause he ran out of constructive things to say.

I didn't try to get anyone here to do it.. I wasn't trying to sell the idea on anyone. The exhaust on my jeep is stock and it will stay that way.

And with your radio comment its like you are asking for confrontation. How many times have you told someone that when they brought up exhausts?

Whether he like me or I like him I respect one person in this thread. Tjkj was civil and acted his age. We had a debate. I agreed and disagreed with him. The rest of you have no respect. Just cause you've been here for a while you think you're right about everything and you're better than others.
