Hello, I am having a charging issue with my 2006 liberty. CRD and I was looking at my shop manual on cd and I have discovered that according to the shop manual the voltage regulator is not inside the generator (it’s what they call it in manual) but it is actually inside the PCM. Anybody know if that is really true because if it is, I just bought an alternator for nothing or I’m sorry generator as to they refer to it as. If that is true, anybody offer have a PCM for sale? Thank you for your help in this matter.

Yes, the alternator field is controlled by the ECU, you should only fit the correct alternator for the Jeep.
If you have bought the correct one then try fitting it, it's unusual for the ECU to fail, normally the alternators or their clutch fail.
