This is my first jeep (I have had all 4wd suv's before this) and it came with the Command trac 4wd system and I can get it into four low but when I let go of the lever it pops back into transfer case neutral :-k . Could someone give me the steps of how to change it from 4hi to 4lo because I have been following the instruction manual and it doesn't seem to work ](*,) .

Thanks,

Matt

Make sure your going 2-3mph (slow) and you shift into N (neutral) on your shifter. When you do this and your still rolling Yank the Lever down to 4-Hi then pull toward the right to N and then yank straight back to 4-LO. It should all click in quickly.

Make sure you only drive it under 25mph while in heavy drift snow, mud, and/or sand (beach). I typically use 4-Hi when its pretty snowy out or when I'm on dirt/gravel roads. I think the only time I used 4-Lo was when I went to Camp Jeep and we were crawling through a trail.

Dont be afraid to pull that lever though.

i've just bought mine, and i notice the same thing. it stayed in when i really yanked it, but of course i felt seriously guilty... i'm wondering if i'm being a sissy and just need to be a bit more forceful?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Have the ****** in nutreal, stopped or doing no more than 3 mph,and then yank that t-case lever back and TO THE RIGHT,be forceful until you have used it for awhile then it will shift into 4-lo easier.

Does the main shifter have to be in neutral to shift the other lever (T-Case)from 2HI to 4HI or 4LO?

2HI to 4HI can be done on the fly, under 55 MPH.

To go to 4LO you need to put the transmission shifter in neutral first.

While the manual says moving 2-3 mph, I've had no trouble shifting in and out of 4LO while stopped.

And yeah mine requires a firm yank :)

As an aside, 4LO is GREAT for backing my 3500 lb trailer up my inclined gravel driveway!

After we bought ours I wanted to use it to see how slow the crawl speed is and have used it a few times since. I haven't had any trouble, it shifted nicely. But as they have been saying put ****** in neutral, follow the shift pattern on the lever and PULL.
