Yep dealer and manufacture wants no bad PR and Libby is being held for evidence as it is the one on camera from my work and they were in position of. So I cant mention brand or dealer.
Let me guess you had work done at that dealer before & the thief employees knew where to find your KJ....Yeiks! Good thing you had video evidence!
This sounds like someone had an order for a overseas contract! Obviously this is serious & I bet it is an organized criminal theft ring! Woh..
How convenient to work at the dealer eh?
Ya this happened to me once. Had a sweet performance ride done to the 9's and had a paint job done at dealer. The day it was finished I brought it home & the next morning it was stolen. Had no video & could not prove it was the dealer body shop kids/set up job. They found my car with engine & trans missing..good haul..$20K loss for insurance. Luckily I had the car appraised before it was stolen.

Sounds like a program error to me. Like it's looking for them. Not sure how they tell them they are there. Maybe check your owners manual as to how to shut it off.

Fog lights are like daytime running lights now. Sounds like a switch issue as you've probably surmised.
Thanks! I'm guessing they just told the computer to start watching for stuff that isn't there to begin with. When it can't find it (duh...) it warns me...

I'm hoping the fog lights are something similar. They stuck a used steering column in there and I'm not even sure what year it came out of. So much for my well-maintained-one-previous-owner Jeep. :emotions34:

Prof, still thinking about your job interview. Any word from the company on the status?

Bob

I'm supposed to call them next week. In the meantime I am going to see what if anything is shaking down here in Virginia. Might as well, seeing as how I have put the "0" in "Ohio" so far.

Problem is 20 seconds with a professional car thief and he's gone anyways even with all of that stuff on there. Of course will slow down the amateurs:icon_lol:

My guy was definitely an amateur. I suspect that if I had an alarm on there it might have ended with just a broken window. With a club (which I have added already) he might not have even gotten that far.

There is little you can do against a pro (except maybe just be lucky), that doesn't mean it isn't worth protecting yourself against the rest of the world, though.

If they want it that bad they'll just drag it with a winch up a flat bed rig and drive away with it like they did with my Libby and I'm sure its not the first or the last. The d rings on the front Matrix didn't help any.

When I worked for the state we had an "EX" Con come and talk to us about car jackings/ stealing cars, breaking into them etc. Some of the places we had to inspect were not the best places to be so was trying to keep thefts down. He had everyone tell what kind of security they used and then went through each thing telling basically how many seconds it would take to either disarm or just ignore and take what they wanted . Of course he was a pro and had lists of cars or items he needed each day.
Amateurs just slash and grab, so they'll tear up $2000 worth of stuff to get a 100 dollar item.
Heck mine was broke into at a Walmart parking lot , 5 parking spaces from the main door, at 11:45 AM on a busy Saturday morning !

You sure you need a club for the KJ? My steering wheel locks when it's upside down.

Anyone have any recommendations as to a good type of alarm system? I probably won't get it back until early next week and obviously have no desire to bring it back here so the thief has a second shot at it. Next time he'll probably bring a friend who knows what he's doing and will get the whole thing. This is the first time in the eighteen months since I got the Jeep that I miss my old Tracker.

Went with a Viper Premium LCD 2-Way Security System. I hope it's as good as its reputation.

Someone else said it before, but if they really want it they'll get it. It doesn't hurt to discourage the casual jerk, though. If the guy is motivated, then it's time to call the insurance company...

I like to think I will discourage the less motivated thieves, at any rate.

Opportunists are the only ones you can hope to shoo away really!

It's kind of like your health. No matter how well prepared, we are all vulnerable to some extent. I know I am going to die someday, but in the meantime I will take every reasonable precaution to tilt the odds in my favor for as long as I can.

The Jeep was the first vehicle I have ever had that I truly fell in love with. Before that, I was happy if my car just ran right. Having this happen has turned me into a suspicious and angry person in some ways and I don't like the feeling. Anything I can do to regain some peace of mind is worth doing, frankly.
