Hi I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty we recently bought and after a good 2 good months she started acting up (overheating) I’ve already replaced its fan, fan motor, thermostat, radiator, radiator/resivour cap and water pump but the results are all the same it always overheats and just recently the fan won’t even turn on when I turn on the a/c ? A couple months ago I figured out that when I unplugged the low fan relay and plugged it back in the fan would kick in and not stop untill I turned off the car. I did that for a couple months to get around till now where even that won’t work, moved the relays around (low to high and high to low) and nothing I’ve hit the wall at this point if you guys have any ideas I’m all open for em because I’m all out :/ .

What problems could arise from over heating these Jeeps? Mine overheated about 12 months ago (driving on a beach, sitting in 3rd gear). My electric fan stopped working (I didnt know it at the time) and the temp gauge went into the red. Pulled over immediately and let it cool down. I have the HD package so i could still drive it, i just had to keep the A/C turned off and i set the heater fan on 4 hot to extract additional heat. I got a new electric fan and everything was fine.

More recently, (about 6 weeks ago) it started to overheat again when driving on a dirt road. Conditions of the road wouldnt allow me out of 3rd gear and the temp needle began to rise past the halfway. I turned the A/C off and it went back down to half way. For mine, it seems being in the high rev range of 3rd gear is not where my engine likes to be.

Going into red= potential for blown head gaskets+ warping.
What was the ambient outside air temp 6 weeks ago?
Going slightly above the middle when it is hot outside can be expected, but it still is an idiot gauge.
Having an OBD2 gauge pack reader/scangauge will give you the exact temps in F.
This is when having louvers cut into hood can really help for venting the under hood temps.
Ensuring the electric fan works correctly, is a must. So is HOAT coolant.

It was a hot day, probably 35+ degrees Celsius (95F).
I was driving on the main road through Cape York called the PDR (Peninsular Development Road) which is a heavily corrugated dirt road (with sporadic patches of bitumen) sucking in a lot of dust down the snorkel.

Heres a pic of what the PDR looks like in most parts:

^nice any kangaroos? I've been off road, climbing, & have taken breaks with the hood open to cool er down before.
Vents cut in to the hood for hot regions highly recommended.

Yea heaps of kangaroos, wallabies, wild pigs and cattle, with the odd brumby thrown in. You've always gotta be looking out for them. The corrugations are the worst part. They just shake the absolute sh** out of the whole vehicle! Yes, those vents would be extremely useful for me. It seems quite a bit beyond my DIY abilities, though.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Omarrtrrs97!

I have a cheap obd2 scanner that tells the engine temp. What is the max temp range i should be concerned about?

Even on 90 degree days the max I have ever seen my Jeep go to was 235F.
Normal driving summer temps 225 F, less if on highway.
The electric fan turns on about 219 degrees, & the thermostat may not fully open till around 218 F.
I have the dealer do a flush on their re-circulating Hoat machine every 5 years.
What max temps have you seen on yours?
