Jeep Liberty Sport v3.7 2002

Could someone please have a look at these pictures and let me know if the rubber hose on the right-side is going into the correct connector? And is there supposed to be a hose connected on the left side of this intake system?

Quick backgroud of recent repair work done:
- One of the engine pistons had to be replaced (engine repair kit used)
- Steering repair kit used to fix a continous steering oil leak problem
- Radiator fan clutch and water pump replaced with new ones

Jeep has been running fine for more than a month now except for couple of issues:
- Engine check indicator is now lit up all the time (not sure if it has been on since the time after engine repair)
- The temperature does not rise instantly but if left idling for a "very long" time, the temp shoots up all the way to high. And then the raditor fluid starts boiling/spilling. But if I start moving again, the temperature goes down. I am guessing the running air flow helps with cooling.
- Doesn't seem like it's all the time but have noticed that whenever after I make a hard right-turn, there is a slight sputtering for a few seconds. Its like the jeep is running out of fuel and about to almost come to a stop. And I am having to accelerate harder to bring it back up. This only happens for a few seconds and only when making sudden "hard" right-turns (not all right turns though).

Based on the above, any suggestions/advise someone could please come up with for me to check. Mostly I am worried with the check engine indicator on.

check and see what code it says.

Already did. The newest one showing is the P0100 code. There are other two codes - P0031 and P0032 that has been there for almost 2 years now. I believe those two are related to the O2 sensors. Strangely, this happened after someone cut off the cables connecting the O2 sensors to the body. (probably after one of my repair shop visits, just dont know which one).

Yes there should be a breather threaded into the right head with a tube to that port just like the one you show on the left side. I'd just put a plug on that open port, clear the codes and see if the PO100 comes back. We don't have a MAF but maybe the MAP is dirty. If dirty, replace it, don't think you can really clean them.

Sounds like your efan isn't working. Does it work when the temp is up and does it turn on when you turn on the AC? Maybe the motor is shot as the relay (located on engine side of inner fender below the battery) will throw a code if it fails. The clutch fan is only a helper, the efan does the real work.

Hi ltd02

Thanks. Thats a worthwhile test about plugging the open port, will give it a try. When you say the 'right head' - its the direction when I am facing the vehicle towards my front, right?

Since you mentioned about the MAP, I forgot to mention that I also had to replace the MAP sensor based on their diagnosis but I was not able to get the original part (56041018AB), instead had to go with the one they had in stock (56041018AD) which I think is for the 2004-2012 liberty. Even though there was a slight difference in the locking clip not fitting in, the mechanic somehow managed to fix it in a not so good way, using extended wires between the connectors. Wonder if that has something to do with these issues.

I am not sure about the electric fan and haven't checked it while the temp is up. The AC does not work by the way. So the temp rise happens even without the AC not running. But I had the clutch for radiator (mechanical) fan replaced based on my mechanic's advice. He said that this fan could be stopped just by placing his fingers on them and that it could have been causing the heating issue. So I went ahead with this. And I also decided to have the water pump replaced just in case. I will have him check out the efan next time.
