Dealer Over Filled The Engine Oil !

My 03 has never read that high.
5qts every oil change, sitting ground level and its always been in the "XXXXXXX".

^^Ok there must be something different with the dipsticks. I have always changed my own oil/filter and I know I put in 5 qts and mine comes up to the fill mark just above the hash marks on the dipstick.....:shrug:

(Troy=02, Mudd = 04 and mine is an 05MY.......?)

I'll be doing another oil change real soon before I had to the mountains. I'm going to use a freakin' measuring cup and make sure I have 5 qts exactly and see where it ends up on the dipstick.

My '06 3.7 reads slightly above the full mark, but not that high. Strange how much variation there is between different KJs.

If you think about it, if Chrysler can’t make the dipstick the correct length, we have bigger problems !!!

lots of cars have incorrect dipstick length, most are caught with a TSB.

my 03 reads perfect after an oil change. Maybe some of you have so much sludge in the pan that even after adding 5qt your level is high since sludge isnt draining

When I put 5 quarts w/filter in either of our Liberty's it always reads EXACTLY at the top of the safe mark. If I were running as high as some of you other guys, I would be concerned that something's not adding up.

My first thought is that you're not getting all of the old oil out. Just because you KNOW you put 5 quarts in, that doesn't necessarily mean there are only 5 quarts in the oil pan. For example, if you drain the oil with the vehicle facing down a slight slope, there may be a half of a quart left in the bottom of the pan.

With the 3.7 oil pan you can have the nose slopped down at about a 5 degree angle and all the oil still will drain out,but if you notice the lift points on a KJ tilt the front end up at about a 10 degree angle to make sure the oil all drains out when on a lift.

Last oil change I was playing with my new bore-scope and yep I poked it through the drain plug hole and no sludge,heck still have very visable cross hatchs on the cylinder walls.

Marlon_JB2 has never personally seen a 3.7L that shows high. After a 5 quart fill, it always reads right there at the top of "Full".

Interesting thread. It looks like I have been overfilling mine for the past 3 years. I put in 5 litres, not 4.7. It thought 4.7 was without filter. When I put in 4.7 then start the Jeep (then let it sit of course), the level on the dipstick is below the full mark. Once I top up to 5 litres, the level on the dipstick is right at full and stays at full until next oil change.
