Diff noise

Well shooting season is closed so I've got time to start working on my new axle, the oil is filthy but the gears and bearings look fine. Its definitely a 4.10, it's stamped on the ring

But one of the half shafts has damage where the bearing runs. Anyone used the offset bearings to get round this?
I'd rather not have to start swapping bits between the axles as I'm planning to rebuild the one on the car as the LSD is handy in the mud.

Finally getting on with my new (old) axle, first hurdle, the wheel bearing is insanely tight in the tube, I've gone from a slide hammer to a hollow jack and only managed to destroy the pulling plate.

Jeep just quoted me £180 or 210 dollars - each for the carrier bearings :mad:
Local bearing place has Timkins for £15 each, how do Jeep stay in business???

Well, it's raining again so I'm not getting on with it at the moment, I checked the backlash before I stripped it, it was 0.4mm so I guess that's what was causing the noise. The gears look good so happy there, I need to check the pinion bearings, the carriers are slightly worn but not enough to give that much backlash. Both axle tubes have loose rust in them! odd with the amount of oil in there and the spare axle is the same!

First batch of bits just arrived. Anyone outside of America where bits are cheap and plentiful! Don't get overcharged the carrier bearings are commercial and easy to find.
