Do I need a special tool to remove my wipers?

I was looking at the field Service manual and it says I need a removal tool to take my wiper arms off. I'd like to take mine off because they have some rust and also some paint flaking and coat in Rust-Reformer.

Is it that hard or just Manual hard?

You shouldn’t need a tool, I’ve taken mine off before but they can be a pain
Just give them a good wack with a hammer and they should pop off

Maybe a little 3 jawed puller. I've never popped mine off. Honestly I'd rather cover and mask shit off before dealing with taking them off.

A tie rod tool will normally do it if you have one.

Ya a puller would be nice but..
Once the plastic cap is off & nut removed, spray liberally in there with Penetrating fluid.
Then leave it for 15 minutes.
Did not have a puller handy & was determined to get those suckers off!

With wiper bent up, It needed some persuasion from bottom with a small wedge block & flat blade screwdriver, along/around the rim, while I pried it upwards with some might!
After the first one flung into the neighbors yard, :gr_grin: I decided it might be best to hold & pull up on the second one while prying it around/upwards!
For re-assembly use some anti seize on the splines before placing em back on!
If you have the Mopar windshield there is also alignment vertical lines in the glass for exact blade placement.

If you are removing the arms it would also be a good idea to now remove the bottom plastic cowling, to access the air intake screen for cleaning!
You may be surprised what you find growing in there!
There are aprox 4 plastic buttons/pins that pull upwards, & with the hood open you can the lift upwards, remove the washer fluid connectors from the underside, then bend it, for removal..easy!
I can now have the cowling off in 5 minutes! :icon_wink:

Remove cap.

Remove nut.

With the side of your fist or base of your palm, give the arm a sharp hit on the top of the hinge (hit towards the windshield, CAREFULLY).

Should pop right lose. Any I've removed over the years have popped right off this way without issue.

Any prep/recommended paints for the wipers? I was just gonna go with plain old rust reformer to prevent future rust and knock down the existing and also be matte so it doesn't refelct.

I just painted mine with rustoleum spray paint after cleaning with a red scuff pad and then wiped down acetone. Came out great. Looks 100x better from the drivers seat.
